Yes, that was a long time ago, but civil rights issues certainly weren't.

Then you really have no right to complain about it if it doesn't affect you. I find a lot of music distasteful, but I'm not arrogant enough to think that it shouldn't exist. I personally think country music fosters a horrible culture of ignorant, racist and homophobic rednecks in stupid clothes.

These problems are old enough that they are nonexistant now or at least greatly diminished. A racist person is a social outcast in this time, as he should be.

I think all the crying and whining about something so far in the past that those who suffered it are dead and buried is asinine and counterproductive.

The civil rights issue died out with Rosa Parks and Jesse Helms.

No ones saying slavery didn't happen, and wasn't horrible. No one is saying that blacks were mistreated for decades. All true.

But that's in the past buddy, and that's the point. I live in the here and now, not wallowing in the evils of past generations whom have no hold on me.

Let me tell you a story, my grandmother grew up picking cotton on the family lands in Nada Texas. She'd spin long yarns about the pain and misery that cotton picking was, they were poor and that was how it was. When I was very little, and not knowing better, asked her "Didn't you have black people to do that?" she laughed and said "No dear, not often, we couldn't afford to hire them". That really changed my outlook on life. Couldn't afford to hire workers... think about that. Paid? To pick cotton, in the 1920's and 30's? THE HELLS? But all those TV shows I saw.. all that stuff I heard about slavery and unfairness... really opened my eyes. So I asked my grandfather about race relations and his answer was also life shaping to me "I din't listen to that stupidity a man's a man, color don't matter"

That's where I come from, that's my background.
