SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - U.S. President-elect Barack Obama has chosen a pastor who opposes gay marriage as a speaker at his inauguration, creating a commotion over what inclusiveness will mean for his administration.

Obama chose Rick Warren, the evangelical pastor of the Southern California megachurch Saddleback, to give the invocation when he takes office in January. A gay rights advocate called the pick appalling.

Rick Warren will give the invocation at the Obama inauguration.

Rick Warren is a pro-life anti gay marriage evangelical. He advocated prop 8 ban on gay marriage in California. The gay and liberal community are furious with Obama for this choice.

Why is this such a surprise to the gay community? After all Obama is a Christian and during the presidential debates and throughout his career he has continually said that marriage is only between a man and a woman.

In an Interview with the Chicago Daily Tribune Barrack Obama said
"I’m a Christian. And so, although I try not to have my religious beliefs dominate or determine my political views on this issue, I do believe that tradition, and my religious beliefs say that marriage is something sanctified between a man and a woman".

On Aug 16, 2008 at the Saddleback Presidential Debate Obama said
"Marriage is a union between a man and a woman. I support civil unions for gay partners, giving them rights such as hospital visits with one another"
he also said " Jesus died for my sins"

This story has taken over the blogosphere. This is a good place for all of you libs and gays to vent your anger at Obama. Politico and the Huffington Post are ready to impeach Obama and he hasn't even taken office yet.

Rick Warren and Obama have been friends for years.Obama admires the work Warren has done for AIDS in Africa. So what if he is a homophobe all the gays are going to hell anyway. Im being facetious dont get your man panties in a wad.

The title is misleading (not the fault of the Original Poster because that is the title) . But this is is not Obama's new personal pastor.

This guy is just a choice at the inaugural top give a speech, nothing more.

He knows what he's doing. Whatever one may say of him, he is a man who understands the political ramifications of his words and actions. He is attempting to further establish himself as a centrist. The gay community will forgive him, I think.

He is giving the invocation, and he is a personal friend of Barrack Obama, and there is more. Obama is anti gay marriage. So all those people that are up in arms and protesting over prop 8 passing in California who voted for Obama are feeling betrayed. Go read the liberal blogs, there pissed at Obama.
