Or what we have to give up, so that China will still allow us to borrow that money. They don't lend us money just for the interest. They have all the money they need. (thanks to us)

But, we get a bigger government with every administration. Higher debts. Higher taxes. And more burocracy............. | Actually, this is what those dollars are for: Quote: |
The FY 2009 budget provides strong support for homeland security throughout the government, for the American people and for its industry providers. The homeland security budget increases have attracted thousands of companies now competing for a piece of the $50+ billion dollar pie. Some of the major programs and initiatives expected to receive more dollars, including Command 21, border enforcement initiatives, cargo screening and automated identification systems, are being pursued by a multitude of small and large companies. Forward thinking companies that want to position themselves for homeland security consideration with the senior-level career staff and the incoming officials in a new administration have increased their advertising focus on these opportunities.
| I can think of worse things to spend money on than border enforcement and cargo screening.

It's one of the porkiest federal departments. I'm not saying we should do away with it...but its budget can and should be slashed substantially.

Over the years since 1966, I saw a lot of tax dollars being wasted....
While in the Navy, perfecty good electronic test equipment, some almost brand new, being sent to salvage to be destroyed and made into scrap instead of sold to the public, which was still wasteful, but less so.
While working at a government owned nuclear test facililty, a lot of money being spent painting grey desks tan, so they wouldn't look so old and dreary.
Yeah, I felt so much better working around tan desks instead of grey desks...
At the school where my wife taught, some money was donated for a new portable sound system, and some scammer was trying to sell them about $1500 worth of common cheap brand stereo stuff installed in a rack and wanted to charge $3500. For only $3000, I got commercial grade power amp, mixer, speakers, rack on wheels, microphones, cables, etc.
Got a considerable discount by JUST ASKING for it, told them it was for a school, and they were happy to drop prices.
There are too many govt. employees who don't know how to shop for a discount, or choose quality merchandise.
There are too many "business men" who target those same employees.
And there is probably some kickback arrangements being made.
If these people got felony charges on their record, and some jail time, maybe some real progress can be made in spending the taxpayer's money wisely...

Current Mood: | Re: Greenspan: No McCain tax cuts without reduction Lets not forgeet that we pay for homeland security so they can spy on us. Tap out phones, watch our internet usage, keep tabs on our investments and banking. And the National ID is on our doorstep.
Seems we should be spying on them, instead of them spying on us. Because we are paying the bill.
Isn't this sort of thing the reason why people from Europe came to America? To get away from a Government that got out of control? Isn't that why the Constitution was written. Isn't the Constitution supposed to protect us from this sort of thing?
After all, if it's all about terrorism, why isn't our borders secure? Why hasn't Usama been charged for 9/11? Why isn't he wanted by the FBI for 9/11? Why isn't all the cargo inspected before in comes into the country? Why isn't a Label of Origin on our imported food? Why isn't all the trucks on our highways inspected before they go into or out of a harbor?
Homeland Security doesn't provide any security. |
