Nielsen said that 38.9 million people watched McCain accept the GOP nomination Thursday on either ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News Channel or MSNBC. PBS, which has a more imprecise estimate based on samples in a few big cities, said 3.5 million watched on its network.

Last week, Obama's speech in Denver was seen by 38.4 million on 10 different commercial networks, and an additional 4 million on PBS.

I think we can say the obama hype is dead.

I guess that make McCain a celebrity now also?
I guess we can now say that talking point is dead.

But the fact that that many people turned in to watch McCain's speech has to be good news for Obama.
McCain's bizarre green screen speech reminded me of the Nixon without make-up fiasco.
McCain looked creepy and old up there.

Re: McCain, Obama tied in TV audiences

Not only did I fall asleep during the McCain speech, but so did most of my friends and family.

McCain's speech, on the whole, might have been horrible, but the last 30 seconds were actually great. If the rest of the speech had been like that, it would have gone down as one of the best ever given at a convention.

Personally, I think the speechwriters paid so much attention to Palin that they neglected McCain, and that hurt him.

That was the lawn of Walter Reed Middle High School in North Hollywood.

What did a middle school in North Hollywood have to do with anything?

Or did McCain's campaign staff not know the difference between a middle school in North Hollywood and Walter Reed Army Medical Center?

Now that's change!!

Nah, I'm glad that McCain's speech got as many viewers as Obama's speech. McCain's speech was a total train wreck. The contrast between him and Obama was very stark.

Re: McCain, Obama tied in TV audiences

Criticize the message all you want, but there's no doubting that Obama can deliver a speech. No ifs, ands or buts about it. He could talk about paint drying and make it sound exciting and fascinating. He's got that gift, and unfortunately for the GOP, McCain does not. Then again, McCain is a bit better than Bush, so that's an improvement.

"Viewers" does not equal "voters." I watched McCain and Palin, and I'm certainly not going to vote for them.
