Current Mood: | Hurricane Ike targets Gulf, Hanna nears U.S Hurricane Ike will be hitting the Bahamas, then the Florida Keys, before coming into the Gulf of Mexico. You can read the article, but here is what I found interesting - its projected path. Another hit on New Orleans, this time by a Cat 4 or possible Cat 5 storm? I think that a prayer for New Orleans might be appropriate at this time. Also, how many times are people going to keep evacuating the city, coming back, evacuating, coming back, etc, until it sinks in that New Orleans might not be a city you would want to stay in? I would have been outta there before Katrina hit, and never would have gone back. I don't want to call the citizens of New Orleans dumb, but Christ almighty. At some point, just one cell, somewhere inside the brain, has to say "enough is enough".
Let's just hope it doesn't hit them.

Current Mood: | Re: Hurricane Ike targets Gulf, Hanna nears U.S We were all lucky that Gustov was not as powerful as predicted. Not only did it do a little number on Louisiana, but it then drifted slowly northward and sucker-punched Arkansas with torrential rains and winds. Thousands of folk are still without power in Arkansas tonight...luckily, around here, all we got is lots of rain. Looking at the bright side to all this...all the cloud cover and rain brought cool respite from the usual scorching summer temps.

At some point, just one cell, somewhere inside the brain, has to say "enough is enough". | How many times are Californians going to rebuild after a quake? How many times are folks going to rebuild in tornado alley, or along the Mississippi flood plain? The problem isn't New Orleans, or the people who live in Louisiana, the problem is funding the solution.
The solution to the problem is well known, it's never been properly addressed.
The levies need to be built correctly. We spend billions on earmarks every year on bull**** projects, and ignore the critical infrastructure projects that need addressing.
Our levies are breaking, our bridges are collapsing and the best highway system in the world is slowly eroding from neglect.

PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos - The Turks and Caicos premier says Hurricane Ike has damaged 80 percent of the homes on Grand Turk island.
Michael Misick tells The Associated Press by phone that Grand Turk took almost a direct hit and that hundreds of people have lost their roofs. He says people are cowering in closets and under stairwells and are "just holding on for life. They got hit really, really bad," he says.
There are no reports of deaths or injuries, but authorities are now trying to rescue people and get them into shelters.
Ike is now raking Haiti and barreling toward the Bahamas and Cuba as a powerful Category 4 storm.
| As of now a Category 4 storm as it devastates Grand Turk.

Lean: Libertarian Gender: | Re: Hurricane Ike targets Gulf, Hanna nears U.S Powerful Hurricane Ike looms as trouble for Gulf - Yahoo! News Hurricane Ike looms as trouble for Gulf Quote:
KEY WEST, Fla. - Powerful Hurricane Ike rolled down an uncertain path Sunday that may lead to the U.S. Gulf Coast late this week, forcing emergency officials to pay attention and leaving millions of people from Florida to Mexico to wonder where it will eventually strike.
Officials in the Florida Keys started a phased evacuation for residents Sunday morning after telling visitors a day earlier to get out. Ike, a dangerous Category 4 storm with winds early Sunday of near 135 mph, was forecast to affect the Keys starting Monday night on a potential track for the central Gulf.
| This is really tiring for the residents as they evacuate for Gustav and Hanna, come back and prepare to evacuate again for Ike. |
