The interview will continue on the O'Reilly factor Friday, and also Monday and Tuesday of next week.

O'Reilly grilled the hell out of Obama today, and pulled no punches. Both Obama and O'Reilly performed well. I was surprised to see how well both got along. They actually agreed on several points too. Kudos to O'Reilly for telling FOX viewers that going into Iraq in the first place was a bad move.

So far it's been a good interview, although, of course Obama's answer to the surge was nuanced. . I just wish O'Reilly would allow Obama to answer before interrupting.

Way to go Obama. He hung right in there with Bill and didn't let himself get run over. And good on Bill for realizing it wasn't going to work. I loved the way Obama didn let Bill corner him on whether or not he would attack Iran. Obama showed the cognizance of how reckless that kind of statement could be and how it would be used against him. And good for Obama for talking about the implications of the surge, the things that were very influential in the succsses we saw, and the fact that we have not solved the problem.

This is why McCain will fail when debating Obama. If Bill O can't back him into a corner, the Maverick is doomed.

I think Obama fielded the surge issue well. Of course Bill dosen't want to go into specifics on this because it takes the "yes or no" angle out and exposes the problems that weren't fixed.

O'Reilly doesn't get it. We haven't "defeated" the terrorists. They just aren't fighting right now. There is no way, with all the facts on the table, that O'Reilly can honestly say we "defeated" the "terrorists."

Honestly I think Obama's response to the surge question was a gaffe. McCain will throw that back in his face over and over again.

O'Reilly owned him on Iran.
O'Reilly completely sucked and sold out on the surge. He had Obama cornered and he let him escape on agreeing with him on seeking repayment from Iraq. We ARE getting political reconciliation in Iraq! Nail him O'Reilly! Fail.
O'Reilly failed on Pakistan also. Bush just got authorization to fire missiles into Pakistan, and we killed two top Al Quada terrorist leaders - including their bomb expert who writes their manuals. He could have shown we ARE making headway with Pakistan. They have a huge problem with inflation and wheat shortage and Bush just had their Prime Minister at the White House. He struck a deal. We bombed Al Quada days later in Pakistan where we knew two of their king pins were located. What is the problem? Give Bush credit where it is due. O'Reilly disappoints me on these big time interviews. In the end he is just a bunch of fluff who talks tough. Miles ahead of Olberman at that.

I thought that when I saw it, too. I feel like O'Reilly was setting McCain up for something to pound him on later.

Yes, but he let Obama squirm out of it with saying that we've made no progress with Iraqi government reconcilliation, so the Bush plan/surge wasn't able to solve all problems. That's a lie. We're now in a postion to pull out with a WIN. Obama would have had us pull out with a LOSS. It's so black and white. O'Reilly left it vague and inconclusive. He had me yelling at the T.V.

That's probably target #1.

Was this a gamble he took to keep attention off of McCain during the convention? That's the only way I can explain it.

Even though we will probably see that surge stuff over and over, I think a lot of people now think Obama is actually more conservative and status quo than they were lead to believe.

Kudos to Obama for having the cojones to knowingly go into a hostile environment and defend his position. And I was impressed by Obama's thoughtful and reasoned answers.

What a refreshing change from the carefully crafted structured and handled photo ops that the Bush administration has featured and the McCain campaign has adopted in recent months.
