ST. PAUL — Moments after Senator John McCain announced his running mate — Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, an outspoken abortion opponent — his campaign sprang into action to fan flames of enthusiasm among his party’s demoralized conservative supporters.
Mr. McCain has met with small groups of Christian conservatives in pivotal states like Michigan and Ohio — even persuading one Ohio advocate to send a mass e-mail message announcing his switch from “no way” to “I can’t wait” to support Mr. McCain.
He used a recent appearance with the Rev. Rick Warren at Saddleback Church in California to embrace opposition to abortion more explicitly than President Bush ever did. Asked when a fetus gains human rights, Mr. McCain responded, “At the moment of conception.”
For skeptical Christian conservatives, Mr. Perkins said, the selection of Ms. Palin was evidence that when it came to the Supreme Court, Mr. McCain would deliver on the principles he laid out at Saddleback Church.
That conversation has not yet taken place, but on Friday, Dr. Dobson said the Palin selection had persuaded him to endorse Mr. McCain. Dr. Dobson said in a statement that the nomination “gives us confidence he will keep his pledges to voters regarding the kinds of justices he would nominate to the Supreme Court.”
| It looks as if it is all coming together for McCain as Christian and religious right gather to his corner in this election, esp after the pick of Sarah Palin which is met with warm welcome and approval by them. Seems it was a right move then, picking Sarah Palin which rejuvenated Conservatives for McCain.

Wait until the media starts quoting the people she hung out with in the Alaska Liberation Front. I hope they cover it like they did the Rev. Wright quotes.

Do try to keep up with the left's latest smears. If you don't hurry, they'll be discredited before you can parrot them.

Palin addresses AIP convention

Now we’re both voting McCain. |

Current Mood: | Re: McCain’s Effort to Woo Conservatives Is Paying Off I am way cool with Palin being picked for VP. But what I am not cool with is McCain cow-towing to the social conservative right just to "woo" them. I prefer the "Maverick" John McCain. Not this "New and Improved" John McCain.
I keep telling myself he's only doing it to get votes, much like Bush did, and after he gets elected he will again become the "Maverick" we know and love and tell the religious right to take a hike, much like Bush did.
