Palin backed abstinence education

September 1, 2008

(CNN) – Sarah Palin, who announced on Monday that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, indicated during her run for Alaska governor that she was a firm supporter of abstinence-only education in schools.

In a 2006 Eagle Forum questionnaire, Palin indicated that she supported funding abstinence-until-marriage education programs instead of teaching sex-education programs.

"Explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support," Palin wrote in the conservative group’s questionnaire.

There's been some confusion on other threads about whether Palin backs abstinence-only education.
This article should lay that confusion to rest.

Sarah Palin, like our current administration, backs Abstinence Only Education.
Not "Abstinence and also other things".

Abstinence. Only.

Just thought I'd clear that up.

Jesus, think of the daughter. Will you just let these stories die?

There is no doubt that I disagree with the governor, and the right, on parenting. But this is intellectually bankrupt, and nothing but a smear.

You do know you can believe in something and still be accepting of the opposite, were it to happen? In this situation, it's called forgivness, love and support.

How is it "a smear"?
We've got conservatives arguing on three different threads that Governor Palin doesn't support "Abstinence-only" education, or that she supports "Abstinence education that also teaches about birth control" or that nobody knows what her feelings on abstinence education are, and therefore no one should comment on it.

Here is a thread which will clear up the confusion about Palin's beliefs once and for all, and probably save Vauge untold bandwidth, since we will no longer have to have ten-page debates over whether Palin supports abstinence only education..

Re: Palin backed abstinence education.

Apparently when asked if she was offended by the "under God" in the pledge she is rumored to have said something along the lines of, "It was good enough for our founding fathers!"

Whatever. Might as well get all the stupid crap out in the open, quickly.

Re: Palin backed abstinence education.

Just to clarify...this is her stating that SCHOOLS should teach abstinence only education.

While I completely disagree with her on this point, where does it say that she believes parents outside of school shouldn't talk about safe sex...or that she herself doesn't teach safe sex.

I don't think personally intelligent design should be part of a scheduled class curriculumn. This does not mean I believe it shouldn't be talked about, indeed I would likely talk to my children about such views though not supporting it be part of official class curriculumn.

There's a number of sexual things that I would not want taught in SCHOOL, but I personally would wish to speak to my children about.

From what I've seen, at least in some cases, has been people stating that no one has proof as to what Palin in private, as part of a family, talked to her daughter about or taught her daughter.

Also, while everyone keeps pointing to Palin's stance, no one has seemed to do any research as to what the schools that Palin's daughter attended throughout her life taught. People on the left keep trying to score political points on this based on Palin believing in abstinence only education in Schools...HOWEVER, if that's not the acase in Alaska, and they happen to teach standard "Sex Ed", and she's taken it...then wouldn't this not be a failure of "abstinence only education" but just another person taught "Sex Ed" and makes a bad choice anyways? will the left be politicizing this as greatly if that happens to be the case?

Supporting it in her home is a different issue, and that we will never truly know.

This is inherently tied to the daughter stories right now; it comes as news to no one that she is a social and fiscal conservative in governing.

She might or might not have been putting the daughter on the pill. For all we know they could've never given the daughter "the talk". We just don't know.

Having an anti-abortion, abstinence-only whacko in the executive office will be business as usual, and much of the country supports it. This "issue" is low on the totem pole of things to be discussed, and probably just a case of the democrats throwing everything they can at her in typical partisan fashion.

...

NAHHHHHH.

Re: Palin backed abstinence education.

Unfortunantly, with the recent swarm of news articles about Palins DAUGHTER and her sex life by the typical tabloid low brow media, first look didn't provide much info.

However, I did find This which seems to imply that traditional sex ed is taught in Alaska. So the qeuestion is did Palin's daughter attend these classes, and thus wasn't part of "abstinence only" education by itself? And, if that's the case, wiill all the left wing people that jumped to conclussions, made statements without knowing the facts, and tried to politicized a kids sexual endevours be as critical to that education as to the previous?
