ABC News’s Bret Hovell reports: Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s husband was arrested more than 20 years ago for driving under the influence of alcohol, the McCain-Palin campaign confirmed today.

Todd Pali was 22 years old at the time and was not yet not married to the presumptive Republican vice presidential nominee, but was dating her.

He was briefly taken to jail following his arrest.

The campaign confirmed news of Palin’s arrest on the same day it announced that the Palin’s daughter, Bristol, is pregnant. Bristol is 17 and unmarried.

Depends.. the building up of scandals can have an effect. However this probably wont per say.. unless a drug bust also comes up now

I don't know I don't buy into these Palin rumours for a second, especially the one about Trig, wtf was that about.

But I guess roughly 15-20% of Americans think Obama is a Muslim, so who knows.

All this stuff is completely new to me I have to say. We don't get this kinda stuff in UK elections, its bizarre, trying to get used to it lol lol.

I don't see this as an issue. Nearly everyone has a family member with a DUI of some sort, or an equally bad reckless charge for cell phones and such. So long as it was just the once and we don't find out it is regular and covered up (which I don't expect and don't hope for); this is just a barely interesting bit of trivia.

Well I am not talking about the Trig matter.. its stupid and sleezy unless there is more evidence than some pictures from different angles. A nurse coming out saying its true or some documentation, else its just a weak attempt by someone on the left to do what the Republicans have been doing for the last 10 years.

I am talking about the other scandals.. Troopergate, Sherifgate, Ted Stevens, Brigdegate and other issues that have come to light.

Yeah ok if it was level with those scandals maybe, but a DUI is really not that big a deal in the US as it is over here.

I mean come on it all honesty, does Sarah Palins husband who DUI before she even met him, maker her less or more able to be the VP??

Here I was reading along agreeing with you when I stumbled onto this "...before she even met him..." and though I agree with you, I realize that you are making opinions without accurate grasp of the facts.

Sarah Palin is not qualified for the job, so this can't hurt her except as a minor straw in an otherwise hefty bale. If she was qualified, this wouldn't be a deal breaker for anyone, even though she knew him and was dating him when the incident happened. We all know and still love people who have been stupid with cars under the influence of something distracting or disabling.
