Zogby Poll: Equilibrium in the POTUS Race! McCain/Palin 47% Obama/Biden 45%

The latest nationwide survey, begun Friday afternoon after the McCain announcement of Palin as running mate and completed mid-afternoon today, shows McCain/Palin at 47%, compared to 45% support for Obama/Biden.

In other words, the race is a dead heat.

The interactive online Zogby survey shows that both Obama and McCain have solidified the support among their own parties - Obama won 86% support of Democrats and McCain 89% of Republicans in a two-way head-to-head poll question not including the running mates. When Biden and Palin are added to the mix, Obama's Democratic support remains at 86%, while McCain's increases to 92%.

After the McCain "Veep" announcement on Friday, Palin was almost immediately hailed as a strong conservative, and those voters have rallied to the GOP ticket, the survey shows. Republicans gather in St. Paul, Minnesota this week to officially nominate McCain and Palin as their presidential ticket.

It is very noteworthy for the Obama camp to have lost their bounce from the DNC already. There has been a huge swing already with the Palin pick, and the RNC hasn't even started yet.

I don't put a whole lot of faith in online polls.

Is there some point of comparison for this poll? Did they show Obama gains toward the end of the convention like most other polls did?

[EDIT] I see Gallup shows a 2 point erosion in the bump today in their 3 day tracking poll. Now Obama is +6.

I don't see it. The poll averages still favor Obama on RCP. Sure this is one poll. Several others still put him ahead.

Zogby uses a different method of polling. This method turned out to be one of the most accurate in 2004 and one of the least accurate in 2006. I guess the question here is which Zogby did the poll. 50/50 chance there could be something to this one. If so, then Obama is in deep doo doo.

The Rasmussen poll showed just the opposite.

CNN Tracking Poll from 8/29-8/31:

Obama/Biden 49%
McCain/Palin 48%

Either way like iv'e been saying in other threads it is a satistical dead heat. CNN is reporting this morning that Obama/Biden are getting a post convention bounce in the polls. But mostly everthing else I have read discounts the bounce.

Was this not the same polling company that said McCain was up by 6+ (or was it 8) a week or 2 ago?
