A Big Mac is actually much less disgusting than many other fast food offerings, despite its undeserved reputation as the poster child of obesity. The problem is that most people don't ONLY get the Big Mac. They get fries and a drink too.

If I was in that Subway and was torn between ordering a Steak & Cheese sub or a Meatball sub, the calorie count most definitely might sway my opinion toward the Steak&Cheese. But if the calorie count was not there, I'd probably have no clue which had more calories. |

And we usually down beer and other goodies at the home cheeseburger party no?
btw. a fair comparison would be thier 1/4 pounder with cheese no? Or at least add mayo to our home cheeseburger.

hmm 160 calorie difference?
When one is stuffing ones face with this junk does 160 calories really make that much of a difference?
Do you REALLY believe most would make your same choice or even pay attention?
here is another example. my motorcycle came with some kind of warning sticker telling me that motorcycles are dangerous (duh) or some such nonsense. Never read it, even when I took it off....
This is the same thing. |

NY chains post calorie info I understand why people want fast food places to post calorie counts, but honestly, the food is unhealthy anyway you slice it. I'm not big on eating meat but when I do, I would rather it be grilled at home and not dripping with fat from McDonalds. Most of their food is highly processed... it's squeezed out of a vat, then frozen at some central manufacturing plant, and then shipped to restaurants all over the nation.
I would be less concerned about calories and more concerned about nutritional content. Most of their food is devoid of vitamins and nutrients that would otherwise offset the cost in calories. Your body requires those nutrients to efficiently process calories, so really it doesn't matter if it's 300 or 500 calories, crap is crap. If you're eating crap then your body will reflect it.
It's deceiving marketing to imply that a calorie count should make you feel that you're making "healthier choices". Aside from some lettuce and a tomato they may sprinkle on your dripping pattie, it's all crap. |

Gender: | Re: A 540-calorie Big Mac? NY chains post calorie info I don't care if they post the calories or not. More information is fine and I don't have a problem with it.
Is it going to affect my decisions? Not in the slightest. If I'm at a fast food joint, I've already decided that I'm not sticking to my "diet". I will order what I want based on taste, not calories, not price. I order what I WANT. Telling me that what I'm ordering is twice the calories as some other sandwich I DONT want isn't going to affect my decision. I'm still gonna order what I want to eat.
Banning foods or ingredients is beyond the pale though. I cannot believe that anyone in this country would advocate such totalitarian nonsense. And what baffles me even more is that these same idiots actually think this bull**** won't get worse if/when we get NHC (god forbid).
Don't like the government telling you what you can and can't eat? Then you better make god damn sure we don't get NHC. Because this kind of **** is what you can expect from such a government. Hell, they're doing it now, it will only get worse.
My only hope is that it's at a state level so I can avoid the totalitarian nanny state idiots and stay in places where freedom is still a valuable ideal. Yeah.. even freedom to be unhealthy.

Current Mood: | Re: A 540-calorie Big Mac? NY chains post calorie info Portion is our problem. Our biggest problem. I'm not sure calorie counting is even going to help with the portion problem. It's the supersize and the biggie and all that disgusting stuff. I can't believe the small soda when I go to the movies. The "small" soda is the size, no crap, of a big gulp. When I was a kid "big gulps" were ridiculous. Completely out of hand, which made them fun. Now they're the norm and at the movies they're "small." Bags of chips are ridiculous. They're just too freaking big.
I'm not sure the calorie listing is going to help people make better choices. I think portions need to be brought back down to earth. You want to people to be less obese, quit feeding them portions that could nourish an entire small family. |
