One would have to be a fool to need this stupid law in place. | That's not true. Just because most people know that fast food isn't good for them, doesn't mean they know HOW bad it really is. Not all fast food is created equal. Consider the disparity in the calorie counts in the following entrees:
Arby's Medium Roast Beef Sandwich: 416 Calories
McDonald's Big Mac: 540 Calories
Pizza Hut Personal Pan: 620 Calories
Burger King Whopper: 670 Calories
Subway 12" Turkey Sub: 746 Calories
KFC Two Chicken Breasts: 760 Calories
Wendy's Baconator: 830 Calories
Chipotle Burrito: 923 Calories
Hardee's 2/3 Thickburger: 1088 Calories
Does anything on this list surprise you? Maybe most people know that none of this stuff is "good" for you, but I doubt that most people know that a 12" Subway has just as many calories as two chicken breasts from KFC, or that a Thickburger packs TWICE the punch of a Big Mac.
Providing the consumers with this information will help them make more informed decision.

If you sit on your arse playing xbox maybe. It's all about increasing your output over your input.
Simple really.
When I am out doing 3 day long training, I can pack 5000 calories a day and not gain a pound. Quote: |
If it's next to the price yes. Heaven forbid giving consumers more relevant information to make better decisions in a free market.
|
I see "In New York City, a law kicked in earlier this year requiring fast-food restaurants to post calorie counts on the main menu right above the counter"
which is not the same as you stated.
Either way, we put warning signs on the side of cigarettes yet we still have many smokers.
Aint gonna work.
And forcing one resturaunt to do so while not forcing another is not "free market" by any stretch of the imagnation.

| The two I bolded. I didn't know that they were that ridiculous. Quote: |
I doubt that most people know that a 12" Subway contains 80% more calories than an Arby's sandwich, or that a Thickburger has TWICE as many calories as a Big Mac.
| I'd bet good money that most people can't gauge a 12" Subway sub accurately. Quote: |

| Nah, let's just leave our customers in the dark. They don't need to know what goes into our food. Let's throw in some arsenic. We'll call it a preservative.

Subway is the one that posts it already right next to the sammiches.
How is that working out.
People who will want to know the calories will find it. Those that do not consider it will never care. |

Willful ignorance is not my problem. one can look it up anytime they want.
If they wont look for it on google, they wont look at it if you told them before each order. |

| Because smoking is an addiction. Eating poorly is not. Furthermore, virtually every smoker knows it is bad for them and they are jacking up their chances of getting horrible diseases. That is not the same for food. Come back when you have a decent argument. So you're saying that increasing relevant information to consumers does not change their behavior? Quote: |

| So you'd rather have no information at all? What kind of bat**** argument is that? And this can be extended if needed. No one except you argued that only certain places would be mandated and that no others would ever be mandated. |

thanks for proving my point. | Not quite. All that proves is that people fail to read the entire board. Put it next to the price, where the vast majority of people are going to be looking and you'll get a different outcome. Any marketer knows that placement is key. There's a whole industry that revolves around the design and layout of menus. Quote: |

I am not. fact is most of thier stuff is within normal ranges of other common things cooked at home or at the river palm.
We eat large portions.
Singling out one small sector wont do jack. Quote: |

| It can be "anywhere prominant". Subway chose next to. It still aint working. Quote: |

| Why are there new smokers starting every day. With all the ads, the truth movement, the labels, the smoking bans. We still have new smokers each and every day. Quote:
So you're saying that increasing relevant information to consumers does not change their behavior? |
For the most part, no. People like convienence. Obesity is an issue, yet with all the warnings and what not, people still eat like cows.
Do you REALLY believe they will eat less and not "supersize" it because the calories are listed?
That would be foolish to believe so. Quote:

Did I make that argument? I don't recall doing that at all. Though we don't make RUth's chris steakhouse do it, why only mcdonalds? |

now that would be your illogical jump. I think it shoud be voluntary. If you are going to mandate to one industry you have to mandate it to all. |
