Reducing portions to say 50% of what one normally eats is a large reduction in caloric intake and that combined with exercise and water leads to weight reduction. At least for me, I lost 55 lbs.

A novel idea. How will this affect the eating habits of customers? Will looking at the calories influence u in what u purchase in restaurants or fast-food places? Will u cut down yr intake to decrease yr calories or will u simply purchase the same as b4 (even when looking at the calorie sheet)? How will this affect the fast-food/restaurant industry? Will their sales go down? What do u think?
Do u agree with the trans-fat ban they r proposing?
How effective do u think this anti-obesity campaign measure will be? Should all states be doing this? |
It should never be the government's place to dictate what you can and can not eat nor should it be their place to dictate to restaurants and fast food places to display a calorie charts.Anybody with at least a ounce of common sense knows that fast food in general is unhealthy. If a restaurant or fast food place wants to post calorie information than that should be their business.

| I suppose then you're against the labels on the back of products telling you what went into them? That is effectively the same thing. Mandating that food providers tell you what they put into it.
Furthermore, forcing the display of calorie charts provides more information to consumers in a free market, giving them better information to make choices on. And you'd be surprised just how ignorant people are of such information. Even Subway sandwiches are often more then people think they are. Subway Diners Eat More Calories? People can't even judge Subway sandwiches correctly. Quote: |

| Then most Americans have less then an once of common sense.

30L Coke, did it take off? Coca-Cola Introduces New 30-Liter Size | The Onion - America's Finest News Source
It was being labelled as "family size". Hell you would surely need a huge family to get through that in the period prior to it going flat.
If we, as a family ever buy coke, which is rarely i might add, a 2L bottle will suffice and last a good 5 days.
A little self control is all that's needed, but obviously some people are devoid of this trait.
So perhaps product quantity should be looked at?

Current Mood: | Re: A 540-calorie Big Mac? NY chains post calorie info I think it makes sense to require restaurants to post the calorie count of their food...at least the larger ones. If it works, then maybe New York could expand it to ALL restaurants. I think consumers should have the right to know what they're buying.

Current Mood: | Re: A 540-calorie Big Mac? NY chains post calorie info A company like mcdonalds doesent need defending but people have the right to make bad or good choices. The mcdonalds in the UK do have the list of whats what already i dont think it makes much difference.
Im not fat myself but people who are have made the choice to be so its hard for some people we arent naturally developed to have all this food around us. we naturallly have the mindset that food is scarce and we should eat alot while we can.
If you let the logical part of the brain overide this instinct you will lose weight so maybe it is worth counting calaries if you are the sort of person to over induldge.Unfortunitly i dont think people will.
People often say "im going on a diet" but you dont go on a diet you have a diet so if you change your diet it has to change forever i think people have this idea of putting themselves through a 2 month journey and then they can go back to their old diet.
