NEW YORK (AP) — Phil Gramm, a top adviser to presidential candidate John McCain, is resigning from the role as campaign co-chairman after his comments that the United States had become a "nation of whiners" who constantly complain about the state of the economy.
The former U.S. senator from Texas and past presidential candidate made the remarks earlier this month. McCain immediately distanced himself from the comments, but they have been criticized constantly as McCain tries to show he can help steer the country past its current financial troubles.
Gramm had also suggested that the country was facing a "mental recession" instead of real economic problems. Gramm said in a statement late Friday that he is stepping down as a co-chair of the campaign to "end this distraction." The Associated Press: McCain adviser Gramm leaves |

It's funny to see you conservatives rallying behind a non-conservative. It's hilarious. No, the jokes on you really. Seeing you conservatives throwing your support to McCain is just hilarious.
It's ok Conservatism is dying and we all know it, when conservatives are supporting a non-conservative just because of the "R" label, the joke is really on you lol. |

We really need an independent party, one that shuns the corporate world and seeks to represent the people....

Ron Paul was the closest I could see to a third party making a difference but he sold his soul to the GOP and will be their lapdog as long as it keeps him a a spot. Sad really. |

Current Mood: | Re: McCain adviser Gramm leaves McCain was smart to get rid of the idiot. Graham represents what is really wrong with much of the "let them eat cake" GOP. They are out of touch with the concerns of the working class. Because they are not experiencing the pain and struggles of this Bush economy, they think it is in everyone's head. McCain himself has said that he doesn't believe that we are in or headed for a recession....having Graham around would only further expose his lack of economic understanding.
