Re: Gore sets 'moon shot' goal on climate change

I have no issues with either making money, IF what they are proposing works. It would be better if they make their money without sucking up a lot of taxpayer dollars, tho.

What companies does Gore have stock in? Or was that just a passing thought?

Gore in his usual sensationalistic way is yet again proposing lofty goals and ideals that are impossible to reach.
The practicability I discussed in a related thread. The goal is certainly not impossible, but it may impractical.

However, there are twofold benefits from implementing solar power (and nuclear) - decreased greenhouse emissions, and reduction of fossil fuel consumption.

Both issues are extremely important to the long term of the country.

Gore may be engaging in a bit of grandstanding, but given the crucial importance of both these issues, IMO he should be acknowledged, not laughed at.

Gore is a pathetic joke.
Who cares who came up with it?

Reduction of greenhouse gasses and concurrent reduction of dependence on oil are both worthwhile causes that will benefit the country in the long run.

meaning what? I do not favor Pickens plan.
Gore having stock in a petroelum company is a non starter, as almost none of our electricity is generated using oil, less than 2% last year.
His plan is to stop using coal and NG for the production of electricity, but using his plan or Pickens plan, we still need large power plants situated near the loads, like big cities, not thousands of little windmills scattered around rural America. And the only large power source that can provide for the densely populated areas without using carbon based fuel is nuclear.

BTW, check this out:

“I was in wind energy for a minute…. I hate it. And when I got to looking at those damn things I said, I don't want to be a part of putting that on the horizon. I think it's homely and I don't like it. We took a loss and got out of it and I'm glad I did.”

Well when one is a joker who jet sets around doing world concerts that pollute and the other is an oil man who decided one day to offer up a solution rather than simply complain, that to me tells me which one is more credible.

you said:

Quote:
I believe Pickens, as rich as he already is, just wants to grab some of the taxpayer subsidies, but that Gore is at least sincere about making progress without trying to become a billionaire in the process.

You then asked about my saying something in passing. I responded by pointing to your similar comments.

How does gore's plan differ?
