Re: Drilling in the offshore

Not only will this help us in the long-run...once OPEC and speculators see this, it will help us in the short-run.

We need some sort of capital before we even start the idea of investing in long-term goals like alternate energy sources. We also need independence before we decide to make our own alternate sources.

Re: Drilling in the offshore

Urgh. That is why I prefer actual geologist and economic data rather then big talk from ignorant fools.

Hemingway ignores the entire notion of international commodity exchanges. And he ignores that much of that oil we'd pump is low grade, heavy or sour. I find it disturbing how he ends with an emotional appeal. Not to mention he completely ignores how the dollar is the driving fact in the price of oil.

Still, at least he does mention some actual facts, such as declining production.

There's more than enough venture capital for alternative energy sources... the problem is that it doesn't have government backing. Thank big oil for that.

If America wants to reduce its dependency on foreign oil, then it needs to reduce its dependency on oil, period.

I have seen both sides of the coin represented in the media. A lot of news shows even have the usual bipartisan pannels on to debate their mouths off about it.
