I say end it all now and make all marriage declared as civil unions to the state and "marriage" only a title that a specific religion can declare. This way legally all "marriages" are the same but specific religions can state if they, as a religion, want to not recognize homo or heterosexual couples. This religious recognition would have no impact other then within the religion.

And if you want a poll fine I'll drum it up. But when I drum it up you must promise to tuck tail and run for couple of days instead of your usual 12 hr stint. |

Current Mood: | Re: Voters to Decide Same-sex Marriage in California A new thread didn't need to be created to continue the same debate that is happening elsewhere. A vote doesn't speak the issue of equal rights, it just means people will have the ability to exercise democracy to enforce bigotry.
Most people, in general, simply don't care about this issue. They just want the Conservative right to shut up already, not because it's a moral issue, but because they are sick of hearing about it. I wouldn't be surprised if people voted in favour of gay marriage just to get back at those shouting so loudly about it.
That said, this is still a minority problem and giving the majority (who are heterosexual) the power to decide the fate of this issue doesn't really make much sense to me. It's like, in the early 20th century, giving white America a vote on if blacks should have rights or not. The Supreme Court exists to challenge the status quo by delivering additional rights to groups whose rights are not sufficiently en par with law. This vote is nothing but a sanctimonious ditch effort from the bigots who are against equality. |

This is new inofrmation......If you read it you would see that the California Supreme Court will not try and block the referendum from happening.......... |
