On national security McCain wins. We saw how that might play out early in the campaign, when one good scare, one timely reminder of the chaos lurking in the world, probably saved McCain in New Hampshire, a state he had to win to save his candidacy - this according to McCain's chief strategist, Charlie Black. The assassination of Benazir Bhutto in December was an "unfortunate event," says Black. "But his knowledge and ability to talk about it reemphasized that this is the guy who's ready to be Commander-in-Chief. And it helped us." As would, Black concedes with startling candor after we raise the issue, another terrorist attack on U.S. soil. "Certainly it would be a big advantage to him," says Black.

A top adviser to John McCain has apologised for saying a terrorist strike on the US would benefit the Republican presidential candidate.
Charlie Black said he regretted the remarks to Forbes magazine in which he said a new attack on US soil would be a "big advantage" for Senator McCain.
Mr McCain said he found it hard to believe Mr Black had made such comments with which he "strenuously disagreed".
Democrat Barack Obama's campaign said Mr Black's comments were a "disgrace".
Followers of Mr McCain - a former US Navy pilot and Vietnam prisoner-of-war who has travelled the world while serving in the Senate - say his extensive grounding in foreign affairs gives him an advantage over the less experienced Mr Obama.
Thus, they argue, he benefits any time national security matters are the news of the day.

Even our own Navy Pride was fantasizing 4-5 months ago about how another terrorist attack might help the GOP in this election. Its just par for the course from these people.
McCain was smart to distance himself from the comment....but you can bet that if the shoe were on the other foot....our resident gang of five would be running around touting how it shows the type of people that Obama associates himself with and how it is fair game to judge him on the comments of those that he surrounds himself by....

Had the dems said that our resident facists would be all over that like white on rice.
I am curious to see how FOXNews spins it or to what extent they even cover it. I know that if anyone who even remotely knows Obamamama had said that, FOX would be running it 24/7. Fair and balanced...

Although all things considered I'd rather it be Iraqi civilians and American soldiers then American civilians |

But all those getting up in arms...is that really so far off? Do you think if we had a terrorist attack happen, espicially if it could be painted that it slipped through because of certain repeals of PATRIOT ACT provisions or some such thing, that it woudn't help McCain likely more than it'd help Obama?
I thank NCFY you for actually not being just a blind partisan, and I agree with him. There's a number of "bad things" that can happen that favor one side more than the other in the mind of the voters I'm sure. Is it a STUPID thing to say political, yes. Is it some awful horrible wrong thing to say? Not really.
