Barr may run for president on Libertarian ticket

Bob Barr has announced that he may run for President on the Libertarian ticket. He did not say whether or not Ron Paul approached him on this, but it is my bet he did.

If Bob Barr throws his hat into the ring, he has my vote. Simple as that. If you are really Conservative, and not a donkey in an elephant suit, it should be as simple as that for you too.

Article is here.

Cherokee County is in suburban Atlanta. It was once the heart of Cherokee Country.

I am really disturbed by this. The only thing this will do is ensure four years of Democrats in the White House, right now at a time when the Democrats are self-destructing and McCain basically has his foot half-way in the door already.

I like Bob Barr. I met him when I was a party activist in Georgia. However, if he makes this run, he will betray the Republican Party that he once loved so much. He lost a Congressional Primary to a fellow Conservative (John Linder) when Democrats in Georgia redistricted them in their gerrymandered map of2001. Why can't he simply accept that the Republican Party doesn't need him anymore - or if it does, work through the processes of the Party.

If Ron Paul does this, shame on him. He ran as a Republican and lost. Now, it is time to support the party nominee, not give the White House to a Democrat.

John McCain and Ron Paul are so far apart on the issues that they might as well be in different parties. For that matter, John McCain and the Republican Party are so far apart on the issues that they might as well be in different parties.

But yeah, strategically speaking, from the libertarian perspective, it'd be stupid for him to bolt the GOP after bringing so many libertarians (back) into it.

We're simply never going to have more than two strong parties in this country and the longer the LP continues to seperate itself from one of the two major parties, the longer libertarians will continue to be completely ineffectual in politics.

But Republicans picked McCain as their nominee. McCain has an 84% rating with the conservative union, is strong on defense issues and will be tough on foreign policy, but likely won't alienate our allies like President Bush has.
