Current Mood: | Schwarzenegger: California will sue federal government The Governator is going to sue the Federal government so that California can have the emissions standards they want. And why not? What business of the government is it to attempt to tell Californians they cannot run their own lives, as set forth in the 10th Amendment to the Constitution.
And what input did the Federal government use to make its decision? I am not sure, but Bush's EPA Chief overruled his entire staff to make this decision on his own, and Cheney, who recently met with the automakers, is cited in that decision.
Just more of the same BS from an administration that claims to be Conservative. BTW, the administration also has some nice porcine silk purses for sale. Article is here.

Current Mood: | Re: Schwarzenegger: California will sue federal government I'm probably hypocritical for saying this, but oh well. I figure as long as their requirements are more restrictive, which they are, this really is pathetic of our federal government. This is definitely one of the things I don't like about the Republican party. They seem to always take the side of big business over sensible ideas. I can't think of any other reason to not allow California, or any other state for that matter, to have more restrictive emissions regulations. |

| Re: Schwarzenegger: California will sue federal government The Reps are just corporate agents protecting their interests
in Big Oil! They could careless about big or small Government
just so as long as "We The People" pay the taxes and they get what
they want. Arnold wants to revolutionize Americas Hydrogen car (alter fuel)
industry. But Big oil does not want that to happen so Bush & Co. will try to
stop it, simple as that! |

oh....or if it has to do with Medical Marijuana....then they have no interest in "states" rights at all.

Current Mood: | Re: Schwarzenegger: California will sue federal government disneydude and roguenuke seem to have my main thoughts well covered. One, seems a bit odd that Repub administration is screwing up states' rights; two, if the restrictions are more rigorous than the feds, seems like a good thing; and lastly, CA has been leading the way and being a good testing ground for all of the current national standards, why screw that up now? |

Current Mood: | Re: Schwarzenegger: California will sue federal government I think California, is pretty NIMBY about energy.
If they want this, they should pay for it.
The cost difference for the manufacturer should be supplied to them from California's kitty, otherwise it amounts to an unfunded mandate.
I don't really like the notion that Californian's got their emissions crap onto everyone's cars. This would be another mistake. The feds should tell them they cannot ban the sale of automobiles that don't meet their standards, and that all they may do is pay for and supply a retrofit kit. |

| Are they actually banning the sale of automobiles, or are they just holding cars to higher standards with regards to emmissions for registration purposes? I think you will find that there are emmissions standards in most, if not all states, not just California. |

Do you recall on gameshows years ago, when talking about the NEW CAR !!! that had just been won, they would mention that it was "California Emissions" ready ? That crap made Detroit make ALL cars that way. |

| Wouldn't the real conservative position be to not tell the auto makers how they have to make their cars, and let the free market decide what kind of emission standards cars have?
To me this is just one very liberal state suing a somewhat less liberal federal government. |
