Although pregnant women are, and in fact, I think both prenatal care and abortion should be government-funded, along with all other health services, including palliative care for the terminally ill, up to and including assisted suicide.
It's all part of basic health care.

Even now, it's a real stretch to pretend it's still feasible that we abide by it.
For instance, the government now provides soldiers with weapons; it is not necessary that citizens maintain their own private arsenals of weapons in case they get called upon to go to war.
And... everything else is about the same.
Just silly and anachronistic, in the context of today's world.
Although not as silly and anacronistic as the Bible, I suppose... but nobody really takes that literally. | Feel free to move to Islamabad. |

It's all part of basic health care. | Quote: |

My sentence was actually as follows: "Right-thinking people in today's civilized society agree that no one in our country should die for lack of basic necessities, even if we have to force these upon them because they are, say, mentally ill."
Are pregnant women "mentally ill"?
Well, no, generally speaking, they are not.
Therefore, no need to "force" health services of any sort, whether prenatal care or abortion, on them.
Are terminally ill patients who desire assisted suicide because pain management is no longer effective "mentally ill"?
Well, that's debatable. I don't think so.
So, we don't need to force further ineffective pain management efforts on them, nor do we need to force further life-prolonging efforts on them.
Are anorexic teenagers who are starving themselves to death "mentally ill"?
Well, probably so. Perhaps we should force food and medical treatment on them, since they are incompetent to decide for themselves that they "aren't hungry" when they weigh only 65 pounds.
Is a homeless diabetic drug addict whose toes are rotting off competent to decide whether he needs medical care? If he doesn't think he needs it, then he probably isn't competent to decide, and we should forcibly hospitalize and treat him before the gangrene spreads into his bloodstream and kills him.
Are you getting the picture now?
Hey, let me ask you this: who is the smartest person you know? Quote:

You and me are going to be the best of friends, I can already tell. | So, I guess you are the decider of who is mentally ill, and who should have services forced upon them now.
Gee, it's nice to know I am in lousy hands.
You are are right about one thing though, we are about to become friends.
Can I have a drag off that cigarette before you put it out? |

Lean: Centrist Gender: Awards: | Re: FEMA workers masquerade as reporters Boy what a coincidence that this opportunity came in just after the time this fake news’s conference was being outed.
Just three days after FEMA is outed for a staging a fake press conference, its Director of External Affairs John “Pat” Philbin lands an “amazing opportunity to head the communications shop at ODNI,” according to FEMA’s press secretary Aaron Walker (via email to PRNewser). The Washington Post confirmed the news through Vance Vines, Spokeswoman at ODNI.
Philbin and Walker were among the staffers asking questions at the press conference which was carried live by the cable networks. The the agency quickly apologized. More details as they come in FEMA Director of External Affairs Exits Amidst PR Scandal; Lands at ODNI « PRNewser |
