Deportees use "revolving door" to return to U.S.

This is why it does no good to deport illegals when the borders are not secured and this is why we should start sticking illegals in supermax prison for a few years or more before deporting them.

PHOENIX (Reuters) - When a heavy knock came on the door of her Phoenix home, Mari knew that the immigration police had finally caught up with her. Arrested and held for a month in a U.S. jail, she was sent back to Guatemala on a prison flight.

But four weeks later, after raising a $5,000 smuggling fee, she was back with her family in Arizona.

As U.S. authorities step up deportations of illegal immigrants, a growing number of them, like Mari, are simply turning round and heading back stateside to rejoin families and resume their lives.

snip..

The little reported phenomenon of the repeat lawbreakers was highlighted by the high-profile case of Elvira Arellano, the Mexican illegal immigrant deported earlier this month for slipping back into the United States despite a previous removal in 1997.

snip..

ome 12 million illegal immigrants live in the shadows in the United States. Last year, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents deported 183,431 people amid stepped up raids in workplaces and homes nationwide.

ICE said removing Arellano -- who sought sanctuary in a Chicago church and became a cause celebre for pro-immigration activists -- was necessary to enforce U.S. immigration laws, and ensure that they were applied fairly.

"Miss Arellano willfully violated those laws and must face the consequences of her illegal actions," Jim Hayes, ICE director in Los Angeles, told a news conference.

Although no records are kept of the numbers of deported immigrants sneaking back in to the country -- as Arellano did to join her 8-year-old U.S.-born son Saul -- anecdotal evidence suggests that it is widespread.

"Deportation is a revolving door," said Elias Bermudez, the founder of Immigrants Without Borders, an advocacy group which works with thousands of illegal immigrants in the border state of Arizona.

"People are picked up at their homes and deported, and some of them are back in three or four days, so it is not an effective policy," he added.

Is the US prision system not only the biggest in the west but also the most overpopulated and this would help how?

Its a lot better just deporting them when days later they can return.Stick their *** in prison before deporting them and they might not want to return and nor would they have the audacity to flaunt the fact they are here violating our laws.If billions of US dollars can be given away like its candy to other countries in the form of foreign aid then surely we can build some prisons to house some extra criminals.

You cant fix immigration until you control the border.

So what you are saying is that you are willing to take money (and food) from needy in the 3rd world, to build more prisons so to lock of poor and needy from one 2rd world country that happen to be "pouring" over a very unportected border and have been for decades? On top of that you will probally cripple a few industries and drive up prices on basic foods, which will hit your own poor hard?

Good plan!

If you feel sorry for people in those countries then you feed them, according to feedthechildren.org 80$ will feed 10 children for a month and 3 dollars will put a pair of shoes on a child in Darfur.

If some industries are breaking the law then **** them I do not give **** if they go broke, throw their asses in prison for a long, confiscate their property and assets, make them a felon and when they get out deny them any future ability to own and or operate a business. As for the prices on everything going sky high, bull ****,labor is only a small fraction of the cost of goods regardless if the labor is legal or illegal.

So you think we should pay money to KEEP illegals in this country instead of spending the money to keep them out. That makes sense how?

Let's say your idea works and we keep 2,000 a year in overpopulated prisons as it is. How does that deter the hundreds of thousands? It doesn't.

Money needs to be spent on reforming our immigration procedures so that legal seeking immigrants visas don't expire while their in country (not due to their fault, but due to the system), and also work on strengthening our borders.

Fix the LEGAL immigration problem and FIX the border problem, and the illegal immigration problem is fixed.

What are you talking about "taking" we don't owe these third world people anything and they hate us anyways so why the hell should we give a damn thing to them? You can't take something that's not there's in the first place, international aid is just welfare on a global scale it does nothing but keep the poor poor and in a perpetual cycle of dependence.

I'm all about free exchange of labor if I didn't then I'd be a hypocrite as I believe in the free-market, however, all we're asking is for these people to sign the ****ing guest book, you have no right to lecture us on imigration policies, Europeans treat their minorities and immigrants like sh!t and the U.S. has the most liberal immigration policy in the entire world, clean up your own houses before you start telling us to clean up ours.

Why do they need to come here to grow our food? Infact if they stay there our food will be cheaper as labor is much cheaper where they come from. If they want to come here sign the guest book.
