Zogby: Congress Has 3% Approval on War in Iraq

Zogby: Congress Has 3% Approval on War in Iraq

RUSH: Did you see the latest Zogby poll? Congress has a 3% approval number on the war. The president has a 24% approval number. Overall, 55% oppose it, 44% support it, but that's going up, it's going up. That's why the New York Times had to go out and poll their people twice, because they didn't believe the first result. "Well, we know this doesn't make any sense." They went out and polled them again, had to admit: Yep, first poll was right. Three percent! I'll tell you something. You know, the president's negative numbers on this war, we've discussed this on this program on countless previous occasions. I think that a large factor in the dissatisfaction with the Iraq war poll is simply people upset that they don't think that we are kicking butt all across that country. We are the United States of America! We do not lose. We are up against a ragtag bunch of Seventh Century bombers that hide out in various places. A lot of people think if we wanted to take care of these people, we could do it overnight. We're the United States of America. That's where a lot of dissatisfaction comes from. Well, there are some opponents of the war out there as well. But how do you explain the 3% approval Congress has on the war? Do you really think some of you leftists out there, that they're getting 3% because they haven't been able to bring the troops home? Do you think they're getting 3% because they haven't passed their resolutions mandating a specific troop withdrawal date? What do you think explains a 3% -- 3%! -- approval rating in the way Congress is dealing with the war? A caller said, "I'd like to know the margin of error on that Zogby poll that put the Democrat Congress at 3%, to know if it would be possible to say that inside the margin of error, no one in America likes the Democratic-led Congress." The margin of error in the Zogby poll is 1%, not the usual 3%. That's a slick adjustment that Zogby made.

Stack of Stuff Quick Hits Page
3%??? How is that even possible?

Here's the actual poll:

Quote:
Survey shows just 3% of Americans approve of how Congress is handling the war in Iraq; 24% say the same for the President

To best show support for the troops, 42% believe Congress should fully fund the war in Iraq to maintain current troop levels, while 34% would favor attaching requirements for phased withdrawal to Iraq war funding. Just 18% said cutting all funding for the war in Iraq to bring troops home would be the best showing of Congressional support.

Zogby International
So the plurality says that staying the course is the best course of action.

Unbelievable

The majority (52%) demands some kind of change, resulting in at least a partial withdrawal.

Ya umm the plurality supports stay the course, hardly any support immediate withdrawal, and far less than those who support staying the course support some sort of timetable. Regardless one things for certain the DemocRAT controlled congress has an approval rating of 3% in regards to their handling of the war effort. That is THE lowest approval rating in the entire history of approval ratings.

The public hate the war. That's the overarching theme here. It's going to be really bad for the GOP in 2008.

Oh, "genius" is spelt "G-E-N-I-U-S".

Logic would dictate that some of the 97% who disapprove of Congress are Democrats. Do you think they're going to vote for a Republican?

Which is explained by this:
Quote:
Slightly more than half (54%) believe the U.S. should set a timeline for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, and 55% believe the U.S. should begin the phased withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq by the end of this year.

The online survey was conducted July 13–16, 2007, and included 7,590 respondents. It carries a margin of error of +/– 1.1 percentage points.

By the way, here are the REAL congressional approval ratings, from sources who DON'T sell their results to the highest bidder.

Quote:
CBS News / NY Times : 26-61% : 7/20-7/22
Hotline / FD : 25-68% : 7/19-7/22
ABC News / Wash Post : 37-60% : 7/18-7/21
