NEW YORK -- Influential conservative televangelist and Moral Majority founder Jerry Falwell died at a Lynchburg, Virginia hospital early this afternoon

I just wonder if the cat food industry is ready for the decrease in demand.

And now we find out he had a mistress for 40 years, who he had a kid with, who is gay... and the mistress is black.

Re: Jerry Falwell dead at 73

Here's to hoping his death was slow and painful.

Re: Jerry Falwell dead at 73

Re: Jerry Falwell dead at 73

I think that Jerry Falwell was a large part of what is currently wrong with our country. That being said, I don't think he deserved to die for it. I think that celebrating the death of someone else because you don't agree with them is rather petty. I don't think that his death suddenly makes our country better. There are tons of people like him who are determined to legislate their own brand of morality, and it is disgusting. I'm truly hoping that they don't make a big memorial on TV for him like he was some kind of hero. Though, I suppose if they can make Anna Nicole Smith look like some supreme important heroic and iconic figure, they can certainly do it for him.

Shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, Falwell said he held gays and feminists among those partially responsible.

In 1999, he claimed that a "Teletubby" cartoon character was transsexual, warning parents to keep their children from watching the TV show. He also told fellow ministers that the Antichrist was a Jewish male living in the world today.

....really? Come on now. Should we be sad an antisemite, racist, bigotted person like him is gone? Sure...his family should be...but the rest of the world? I doubt it.

I'm not fan of Falwell, but I can't take pleasure in the pain his family and friends must be going through, as I'm sure everyone has felt losing a loved one.

If there was such a thing as heaven, I wonder how he would be judged. I have an idea... Didn't he say the anti-christ would be a Jew? And that homosexuals were responsible for 9/11. Bin Laden loves gay people I imagine.

What goes around comes back around. In the tradition of Falwell himself, I will now say that Falwell died because God punished him for his antichristian teachings. Now he goes to hell. How about that. The shoe is on the other foot now. I wonder how many of the religious lunatics here will flame me for this post, while still supporting the hateful things that Falwell said? But Christ said it best when he said that there is a place in hell reserved especially for the hypocrites. I betcha dollars to donuts that, right now, Falwell is quite surprised to find out where he ended up. Someday, Pat Robertson, Ted Haggard, Jim Bakker, Oral Roberts, and all the other televangelists who got wealthy from religion, while uncountable numbers of children in the third world starved to death, will be reunited with him.

Your sir are a great man if only other conservatives thought like you. It's funny....how the poor(or empoverished) religious right supports these pastors and makes them rich when they advocate being just like "every one in their flock". Makes me laugh every time. Oh America...what would Washington say about the ignorant children you have bred and the con men who con them by posing as men of God.

Thats the thing. These guys build big million dollar churches, elaborate monuments to their god. Yet Jesus Christ would have none of this. These millions of dollars should have been given to the poor, if they were "real" Christains.

Tolerance.
Its a wonderful thing.

Yes, indeed it is.

"As terrible as it is, this attack could be miniscule if, in fact, God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve. The ACLU's got to take a lot of the blame for this…The abortionists have got to bear some of the burden for this because God will not be mocked…I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians…all of them who have tried to secularize America, I point the finger in their face and say, 'you helped this happen.'"

So...
His lack of tolerance justifies your lack of same?
he isnt tolerant of certain people, so its OK for you to not be tolerant of him?
Two wrongs make a right?

Damn, and all this time, I thought it was 20 guys from Saudi Arabia who made it happen.

Yay, more feigned outrage. Not everyone who expressed dislike or even hatred of Jerry Falwell is a left winger. Do you automatically assign a political view to everything you don't agree with?
