It is also another good example of our governments failure to do things right.

Meh, in order to "do things right" they'd probably have to look at everyone's assets in addition to their income. Since there aren't that many lottery winners out there, I doubt it's worth the hassle to weed out a few people like this guy.

True but I believe assests should be considered. If you have multi millions in assests you should not be eligable for food stamps imo. How hard would it be for them to have a simple question on the application "what are your total assests worth?".

He should be ashamed.

The folks that should be really ashamed are the ones that left this little loop hole open.

I am not gonna really get behind bashing this man for doing what big biz and rich folks do all the time. Is it right? Nope but neither are the rich folks with all their little loop holes that amount to a hell of a lot more than a bit of food stamps a year. Sorry but cannot really be mad.

I guess because he hit the lotto he just do what those rich folks tend to do: milk it for anything and everything you can. This was a poor man that is now rich and not gonna hate on him just cause he found some loop hole. That hole should not be there to start with.

Damn, this guy is getting the same kind of breaks the banksters who ran their banks into the ground got. I guess that makes this scumbag an honorary bankster now.

This is despicable, and needs to end like the fool in the news who is getting SSI because he likes to play Baby.

Of course assets should be considered. There are millions of people who have their income structured in annuities (retirees, especially) who do so with the intent of getting as much aid as they can qualify for. I know two people personally who have over $500,000 in assets, earn tax-free money from muni bonds, and get free Medicare. Absolutely ridiculous. And if they see this article, they'll be checking' out food stamps.

Honestly, the politicians who failed to close this silly loophole are probably costing their state plenty. They should be ashamed.

The job of politicians is to get re-elected, not close loopholes for their constituents. It's not their money so why should they make waves?
