Possibly, though Barb has bet me (avatar display of my choice for her for a year) that Cain will beat Obama. Is that gutsy, or would there be another term to describe it?

what makes you think his "charisma" extends beyond those already in his camp? has he moved the American people's opinion on a single policy of substance?

I'm boiling down basic traits here cp, Daniels IMHO lacks that charismatic charm, the ability to inspire. Obama, for all his faults HAS it, even if it's losing it's magic.
Climate, changes. It takes a particularly uneducated population to buy into the idea that it's their fault climate is changing and further political solutions can fix it.

The world has gone crazy when REAL conservatives think Newt is too liberal.

AUSTAN GOOLSBEE: I think the world vests too much power, certainly in the president, probably in Washington in general for its influence on the economy, because most all of the economy has nothing to do with the government.

Can't recall when we did that, but I wouldn't put it past us.
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

It was the "in" thing to do during 2007-2008. The sort of, "The Republican party used to stand for ______, _______, and ______. Their former glory has faded with the Bush administration. Although an underdog, Ron Paul represents those glory days. It is hard not to admire Paul's strength and message." Romanticism of the previous decades, exaggeration of the power of more libertarian-minded Republicans, etc etc. It was the fad of liberalism only a short time ago.

Re: Krauthammer on Gingrich's Presidential Aspirations: "Now it's Over"

Newt was tolerated at best in the conservative camp because he always opened his mouth before thinking about what he was saying. His time was over and his so called resurgence was a false front of him being a "conservative leader". That was nominally true so long as he didnt shoot another conservative in the foot. Gingrinch mistakenly assumed his rah rah position made him a leader when he was merely an advisor. Krauthammer was right: hes done.
