Palin says White House invite to rapper Common lacks ‘decency’

rap as it was in the late 80's to early 90's was bad ass, it seems todays rappers are all trying to be the next tupac or biggie smalls, but they all fail. modern rap is monotoned, materialistic and masogonistic without having any of the lyrical pizzaz or cadence the old rappers managed. common was just a lame choice.

Rap is and always has been more lacking in actual musical talent. Moreso than Disco, if that's possible.

Because you think that the more you spew your Liberal mantra, the more it will come true? Still isn't true, is it?

LOL which part of my post was Liberal mantra?

And that's something I will never understand. I wasn't allowed to listen to it when I was younger in my house because of swear words and "mature themes", but my parents didn't detest it. As far as I'm concerned rappers are telling stories like other musicians - they're just telling stories that some people don't want to hear.

Gangsta Rap, glorifying drugs, mistreatment of women, living a life of crime.

That's a story no one should want to hear.

I think it's a story everyone should want to hear just like the negative stories told by country musicians and other musicians . I don't, however, think it's a story anyone should strive to live and the majority of rap music listeners don't. The fact is rap music, like all music, is storytelling and remaining ignorant of stories does no good for anyone.

Your politically correct brainwashing, such as the part about rap being, "progress".

But I never said rap was progress. In fact, I explicitly said it wasn't.

It's not about staying "ignorant" it's about not wanting to listen to such trash.

Wait, give us a few examples of Gangsta Rap stories you feel are worth hearing. Seriously. Maybe I'm wrong, post a few lyric sheets, or song titles and I'll listen to/read them.

It seemed like it was about staying ignorant when you said, "That's a story no one should want to hear."

In any case, "Hellrazor" by Tupac is the quintessential song that people hate based on a surface evaluation. It's pretty violent and he spends a lot of the song appearing to glorify violence (many people would stop listening here and call him a trash thug), but there's also a contradiction in the whole song where he's clearly aware that the violence he participates in is wasteful and juvenile. It's pretty much a story of how he acquired his mentality and its negative effects.

2PAC - HELLRAZOR LYRICS

Another one is "One Love" by Nas. It's written as a letters to his friends in jail - it's essentially a description of life in his neighborhood along with criticism of the gang banger life coupled with a desire to enter it.

NAS LYRICS - One Love

you would do well to speak respectfully of more succesful and intelligent peoples, palin specifically.

I must need a nap. I could swear you just called Palin more successful and intelligent.

Dude how much rap have you even listened to? Be honest:)

I <3 Eminem. I've heard enough to know that there's some amazing stuff in there. I think from what I've read, by and large it's trash. But certainly not all, not by a long shot.

I guess it is only ok to talk about bad things when it is sung to the cry in your beer country tunes or make you wanna kill yourself blues or something:confused::doh

That statement reveals a great ignorance about music.

Disco may have been shallow 'feel-good' music, but it was highly orchestrated, involving many talented backup musicians, horns, drums, bass...

*in my best Texas drawl*

There's only two kinds o' music. Country and Western.

I personally think that rap music has just as much "trash" as every other kind of music. It has crossed into the pop genre just like country has and so a lot of country has become "trash" as well. That said, I think even the trash of both are good for pure entertainment. I personally think those who condemn rap the most (not you in case you thought that btw) are the ones who take it a lot more seriously than the listeners and the rappers themselves.

Can't stand country either.

Gimmie some of that old time rock'n'roll music.

I would say "Dear Mama" is the better tupac song.

.... Rock'N'Roll is mostly made up of junkies and sellouts glorifying drinking, cheating and being all around worthless no-job having dip****s.

Are you sure that's not just any entertainer?
