‘Burn a Bush’? Michelle Obama invites rapper Common to a poetry reading

What about Johnny Cash and Ted Nugent?

Eric Clapton sang about shooting the sheriff. Freddie Mercury sang about putting a gun against a man's head and pulling the trigger. John Lennon sang that a girl should run for her life if he ever caught her with another man. Stephen Tyler sang about a girl shooting her abusive father and throwing him in front of a train. Sorry, you fail.

Typical of Liberals to not be able to tell the deference between reality and fantasy. All of these are fantasy. This Common low life makes up bad poetry about a woman who is a convicted cop killer, about Burning President Bush, etc.

A couple the posts are disappointing because I was starting to think a couple of you could think.

I'm sorry but rap was invented because these scum bags can't use proper English and they all use poor language and insult people mostly women.

Michelle Obama is the most wasteful women ever in the White House, she and Barack are acting like people who were on welfare and just hit the lotto.

How many people think Clapton shot a sheriff?

How many people think Common actually killed a cop or burned a Bush?

I'll bet you've never read the poem in it's entirety have you?

Would you like to buy an "of"?

I don't believe you are sorry.

There's a word for that. It's something-rich. Do you know what that word is?

How many people think Clapton shot a sheriff?

I think Bob Marley shot the Sheriff. I'll bet it was a drug deal gone bad.

Wait, so you're saying this guy really wants to kill the president? That reality and fantasy are dependent upon genre?

Rap is from West African tribal chants, it pre-dates other scummy forms of music like Jazz (invented so blacks could sleep with white women) and Blues (some of the most misogynistic lyrics every written) by hundreds of years.

LMAO thank you for posting this 2 posts after me and only driving my post all the way home. You are exhibit A

Ronald Regan invited Eazy E to the White House.

My favorite was Willie Nelson smoking pot on the roof of the Whitehouse! :sun

And what makes you think that this isn't fantasy, just as those other songs are?

You aren't even TRYING to be subtle with your racism, are you?

And what makes you think that Common has killed any cops, other than the fact that he's black?

I really hope you meant to do that as some kind of joke. Because if you mangled your proper English like that, in the sentence before bitching about others not being able to use proper English, your post rises to a whole new level of hilarious.

I knew what the guy was going for...a witty counter to the President's policy, but I had just viewed Charlton Heston wear a really long gray beard again, so I couldn't help but think of Heston and his averted gaze near that burning bush.

Nah, the Sheriff just made a joke about cancer.

Do you know who Common is? Or are you just talking out of the side of your mouth like a typical bitch? For all intended purposes Common is more clean cut than your average white singer. He makes the Dixie chicks look like trailer park trash. Are you even remotely serious?

This "issue" is the same kind of thinly-veiled racist garbage that inspired the birthers. Both of those are just ways for racists to vent their frustration with black people without actually coming out and admitting their motives. Now that the birther issue has been taken off the table for them, I guess it's not surprising that they gravitate toward **** like this.

Michelle Obama seems to be more worried about being a celebrity, dancing, having parties, showing off her chiseled arms and reading poetry with rappers than anything else. As Laura Ingraham said today, she just looks unserious.

jealous much? what a ridiculous post.

It's idiotic to put it mildly, but it seems Michelle is doing her part to secure their base for 2012.

Change you can believe in.

.

Burn a Bush? I am all for it. Once he is on fire, then thousands of people will see him. And then you will have thousands of people, who saw a burning Bush, saying "Let my Conservative people go". And then the Liberals will all be cast into hell and doom, as Newt Gingrich parts the waters of the Potomac.

Common's lyrics are about real people. Not a sheriff, a girl..

The Obama's have every right to have him to the WH. It's all our House, including his.

However, I'd prefer a president who didn't invite people like that.

You missed the joke, no worries.

It's funny, I don't have a problem with the president doing whatever he wants for fun as long as no one gets hurt. I prefer to get upset about things that actually ****ing matter, not whine about trivial ****. I did not care when Bush for example took vacations, and felt those who whined about it where being stupid. I did not care when Reagan took his wife out to dinner, and think those who complained about it, or Obama taking his wife out, are being stupid. I did not bitch that Barbara Bush was not constantly in the news working on big issues because she was under no obligation to.

We have had threads now bitching and whining about Michelle Obama's shoes, her going into town, he going on a date with her husband, her staff, her garden, he weight, and he choice in music. The threads speak far more about those who would actually whine about these things than it does about the first lady.

and don't forget her chiseled arms.

Gotta watch out for those people exercising their First Amendment rights. Could be dangerous....

I know, right?

I listened to the three talking heads - Rush, Hannity and Levin (guest host yesterday anyway) talk about this and my first thought was have they ever listened to any of his music besides the one or two songs they derailed in each show segment?

Then I thought, "what a contradiction...the defenders of freedom of speech and liberty denoucing an music entertainer and they don't even know what peotry he's going to read." I've listened to some of Common's music; believe me I've heard worse.

Why do so many people not understand music?

I'm with Stewart on this one. Some conservatives are so desperate to bash this president they'd rather just lie and act offended at lyrics that they wouldn't even blink an eye at if it were a conservative saying.

It's sad and pathetic.

that is just the second portion, the first portion that leads into it is here:

Ronald Regan invited Eazy E to the White House. Were you mad about that too?

Gonna point this out in other thread too if it has not already been pointed out.

Yeah I saw that, just goes to show you, even though I knew before hand, that amount of ignorance, bias and hypocrisy there is in crying over meaningless things like this are made of. Its astonishing how in the dark and partasin people can be at times and are totally blind to the fact. Hell just read these thread, anybody smart and objective just laughs and then feels sorry for those types of people, then maybe laughs again :)

Only goes to reiterate - we Americans tend to have very short memories. Either that or we turn a blind eye when "our guy" occupies the White House, but complain heavily when "there guy" gets there. How hypocritical of both sides really, but in this case it's those on the Right who need the reminder that their guy once invited someone of questionable musical taste to the White House at one time or another. What gives them any more cause to condemn Common's attendance than to embrace Easy-E's?

Can't have that evil man going to the white house. I mean...look at him:

Why do so many people not understand music?

Perhaps because as we get older our taste and sense of morality changes and we forget that music is the ultimate form of verbal expression. A song can be about almost anything - love, hate, sex, crime, violence (against women, children, other nations, other religions, people in general), injustice (where rap music tends to hit home in most urban areas). While not a real fan of rap music, I have taken the time to listen to various rap artists, and I have to admit once you get past the profanity there's usually a positive message somewhere in most rap songs - not all, but most. I mean, even Eminem hit on the problems he had in overcoming poverty and stereo-typical behavior in his song, "Lose Yourself" which won him a Grammy.

So, not all rap music is bad. Most of it is very insightful. Frankly speaking, rap music today is what hard rock-N-roll was yesterday - the new battle cry for what the youth of today view as problems facing many of us today. But like hard rock, rap music does have it's dark and sinister side. You just have to weed out the bad and try to find the good. Regardless, music is free speech on the grandest of scales and rap music (second only to country music, IMHO) tells the greatest stories on life and love beyond all other genre of music.

Oh... they can say what they like, that is their right, but don't expect a WH invitation... but this is another type of WH.
