Merkel slammed for joy over bin Laden killing

Merkel slammed for joy over bin Laden killing
Several German politicians on Wednesday criticized Chancellor Angela Merkel for expressing joy over the death of terrorist leader Osama bin Laden, saying it sent the wrong message.

Katrin Göring-Eckardt, Green party MP, Bundestag vice president and leading member of the Evangelical Church of Germany, told the Berliner Zeitung she was glad bin Laden was no longer leading a terrorist group. “But you can’t be happy about his death,” she said.

On Monday, Merkel told reporters that bin Laden’s death at the hands of US forces was “good news.”

“I’m glad that killing bin Laden was successful,” she said.

The criticism of Merkel's comments came not only from political opposition, but from her own party...

Siegfried Kauder, a member of Merkel’s conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU), slammed her remarks, calling them reminiscent of something a person would say in the “middle ages.”

Other politicians said they would have preferred to see bin Laden arrested.

You see, this is why we should largely ignore the Europeans. The day after Osama was offed, this ball started to roll about the Euro airwaves, and this wasn't restricted to the Green Shirts, but the supposed "Conservatives" too.

Yes, Germany has a dastardly past to deal with, and they do still bear deep scars, but this is the similar to discovering Hitler was dead. Should there be no joy when that happened?

Too bad these people don't get it, and because they don't understand something as simple as this... deserve to have their advice on such matters (as Iraq) taken with not a grain of salt, but an entire box.

It appears to be a reaction based on Christian values...
Some prominent Christians have accused her of rejoicing at the killing.

A Green Party member of parliament, Katrin Goering-Eckardt, said: "As a Christian, I can only say that there is no reason to celebrate when someone is killed intentionally."

A prominent member of Mrs Merkel's own party, the Christian Democrats, told Bavarian Radio that revenge was "medieval".

Siegfried Kauder, the chairman of parliament's legal affairs committee, also asked whether it was an "arbitrary killing" - which he said would be against human rights conventions.

The views were echoed by other Christians across the German political spectrum.

I might not agree with them but they are entitled to their opinion, not that it changes a bean.

Looks like Germany has it's fair share of dumbasses, too.

I genuinely don't expect people form other countries to feel how we feel or understand how we feel.

    I really don't.

I'm sure many do, though - which is awesome . . . but if they don't feel it or get it it's not going to bother me.

It's not exactly surprising or culturally exclusive to admonish celebrating a death, no matter who they are.

    However, I say party on.

Well supposedly we're the most violent loving country in the world - we're wretched people.

    We rock it like that.

If any country should understand the importance and cause for celebration of the death of one of the world's most vile of characters, Germany should be near if not at the top of the list.

What should be considered is their future advice/positioning when America makes decisions. They should largely be ignored, as they often do not have our interests at heart.

i actually think it's creepy to have "JOY" over anyone's death, but that's just me. justice was served, but i find no joy in death.
