John Boehner: Oil companies should pay their 'fair share'

However, I think farm subsidies should remain in place. If you like foreign oil, you're going to love foreign food.

Why in the world should we pay farmers to not grow crops?

Please explain why tax payers should be stolen from to support agriculture.

Umm... perhaps because food security is vital to the secuity of a nation and civilization wouldn't even be POSSIBLE without agriculture??? Gee... some people are so silly...

That is a false hypothese, because gasoline has increased with subsidies, while foreign countries without subsidies are selling gas for what it is actually worth.

Panama Panama City $2.19
Russia Moscow $2.10
Puerto Rico San Juan $1.74
Saudi Arabia Riyadh $0.91
Kuwait Kuwait City $0.78
Egypt Cairo $0.65
Nigeria Lagos $0.38
Venezuela Caracas $0.12

Don't know what the source of your numbers is nor can I explain Panama or Puerto Rico (the later is actually a U.S. territory) but all of the other locations listed in your survey are important oil producing states (except Egypt), which would explain the low prices. Chavez subsidizes oil prices in Venezuela. Look at other DEVELOPED countries like those in Europe, Canada, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan and you will find that in nearly all of them, prices are higher, often SIGNIFICANTLY higher, than in the United States...

You do realize that farmers are paid to not raise crops, that farmers are told what crops to grow, and that the subsides only force the prices to be lower in FOREIGN markets right?

Oil companies don't actually get much in the way of real-live subsidies, but the ones they do get, I agree, should be cut off, right along with the subsidies to the green energy flops that try to pass themselves off as legitimate businesses.

You need to check your produce...and where it comes from, we eat tons of foreign food, just not meat, poultry and pork, but fruits, veggies and grains come from everywhere

Exactly and thats absurd...its also to control prices here.

growing up in a small farming community, i can tell you for fact there is no such thing as a "poor crop farmer". the #3 county in the #3 state for many years running on subsidy payouts.. Illinois Summary || EWG Farm Subsidy Database

millions of dollars paid out for front lawns that are mowed and tended like meadows, "farm vehicles" that never leave asphalt..
fleecing at its best and the elected creeps will never have the gonads to do something. it seems their lobbyists are very, very influencial.

no subsidies and close the loopholes, level the field..

Years ago it was called the Midwest Payoff....this is simple the payoff small farmers keep them fat and lazy so they dont outprice the big guys like Dole and force prices down.
I had a friend who planted Xmas trees on 10 acres and got 20 grand a year for years for not planting other crops, he didnt live on the property, didnt live near the property never went to visit the property never watered the trees or cut them down...he bought saplings for peanuts just stuck them in the ground they came inspected once and his cash cow kept flowing

Corporate taxes are just passed on to the consumer. Economics 101...

I want to see Federal taxes on gas reduce by and equal amount of the oil subsidies and tax breaks.

Then we benefit.

Obama and his Administration will find a way to waste it and it will be of no use to us when we need cuts now in gas prices because the economy is in deep trouble mand a sudden drop in gas pices will have a affect right now.
