Looks like my paranoia finally paid off. This is exactly why I use prepaid credit cards for online purchases. They may have my name and address, but 16important digits are important anyway.

What makes you think Anonymous did it? You can't just go around throwing out accusations.

Anonymous isn't a damn political party. If they did something notoriously stupid they would admit it AND boast about it. It wasn't them. Fact of life is that there are many hacker groups out there with many different agenda's.

I don't know much about any of this so i don't know who is responsible, but in general for hacker groups like anonymous I just want to know "Why?"

Yeah, I got an email from Sony giving a warning that credit card info may be compromised, and its almost certain that my PSN info has been compromised.

    Re: PSN outage

Excerpted from “PlayStation Network Users Reporting Credit Card Fraud” By Keir Thomas, PCWorld, Apr 30, 2011 8:17 AM
Sony PlayStation Network users are reporting fraud on their credit cards -- everything from a flight booked in Germany to purchases in Japanese grocery stores.

On Thursday, a security firm reported hackers are offering for sale what they claim are stolen PSN credit card details, despite the fact Sony is adamant that the data was encrypted and is therefore unusable. Sony also said there's "no evidence that credit card data was taken."

Meanwhile, Congress has gotten involved, with the House Committee on Energy and Commerce sending a list of questions to Sony chairman Kazuo Hirai (PDF link to the letter), and demanding answers by May 6. Additionally, the NextGov website claims the Homeland Security Department is helping Sony with its investigation. …
Just by causing the 77 million member Playstation Network to be shutdown for over a week and still counting makes this one of the biggest crimes of all time. There will be widespread consequences because of this.

They usually have motives that make much more sense than the reasons given by other groups. For example they took down Visa and MasterCard for stopping donations to Wikileaks and then they took down Amazon for refusing to host it.

There are usually political considerations behind what Anonymous does but they try to maintain a balance between there actions and popular support, as was the case in defending Julian Assange. Taking down PSN which can only piss people off, STEALING financial data AND denying it? It just isn't their style.

For example, they have a history of attacking government sites introducing censorship legislation for the internet and have provided internet communication gateways that avoid government censorship in Arab Spring countries. They did it for the Iranian protests when Ahmadinejad was falsely elected.

But they made it clear they do not control every individual in Anonymous and will not take responsibility for any "extra-anon" activities that members may engage in.

    Re: PSN outage

Playstation has already admitted that Playstation themselves took the services down. If you read the email PSN sent out its clear the 3 major credit checkers getting TONS of traffic because of this. PSN is now working with "an unnamed security firm" more closely to get things handled. I want people with oversight to take a closer sniff to make sure an insider in Playstation isnt just selling credit info with some guy that hacked their website as their scapegoat. I wonder if sony is maybe making a fat insurance profit off all this?

I think corporations have plans in order so that when they get attacked by a hacker they make the problem look bigger than it really is as lay more blame on people that are hostile against them.

Maybe the goal here was a false flag attack to piss anon off so they really will start attacking sony harder? Someone bust out the scooby snacks and make sure a parking spot is open for the Mystery Machine. I smell a puzzle that needs a'solvin.
