Yes one for the good guys!!!!!!!!!!

Derek Fenton, who sparked a national firestorm and condemnation from Gov. Chris Christie during his protest on the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, will be reassigned to his $86,110-a-year job and get $25,000 for pain and suffering. The settlement, dated today, also says he will get back pay equal to $331.20 for every day since his firing.

He never should have been canned.

However, burning the Koran was a seriously bad idea (even though techncially protected like flag burning).

At least it appears that the court system has some resemblance of intelligence.

Sorry I have to disagree... not with him getting his job back, but this is a crime against the private sector tax payer. :(

you have some issue with his salary?

you have some issue with his salary?

I want it!

But yeah, he should be given his job back. He did nothing illegal and is perfectly able to protest in this manner. He should not have been fired in the first place.

While I don't like the fact that he burnt the Koran, it is protected by the first amendment, thus he should have never been fired.

you have some issue with his salary?

don't you? A public transit driver getting a salary like that in a state that is in dire straits? What do the teachers get paid?

Im not sure what your disagreeing with barb ?

he's not a driver....you should read a little more carefully before you become outraged.

First of all his salary isnt the reason New Jersey is broke..second it doesnt say what his position is with the Dept of transporation, he could be a supervisor or have a specialty job that requires college or special training.
He was fired illegally and hes getting back pay for the time he was fired illegally perfectly appropriate in my mind. The average teacher makes less...thats what leads me to believe hes a supervisor and not a bottom line employee

Liblady you have me curious what is the 6months and counting for if its not personal of course

Public Union wages I guess. Aren't taxes sky high in NJ and weren't they on the verge of going belly up?

$86,110-a-year to drive a bus seems like a dream job. I bet he also has excellent benefits too.
Not trying to start a fight over public unions here in this thread. Just making an observation.

6 months until i take off on my sailboat, for good. i put it in my sig because it still doesn't seem real......

Sorry, I've never had to use public transit in my life. I thought he was a bus driver. :3oops: What's a conductor? A train driver?

A conductor is responsible for train operation and safety...they are not engineers...but its not an entry level job either

he's a coordinator, whatever that means. my point is that you're bitching about salary when you don't even know what his job consists of, and salary was never the thrust of this thread. seems most people don't think he should have been fired, neither do i. is he an ass? yep, but he did it on his own time.

I don't think he should have been fired

I'm glad he got rehired

I thought I remembered that he was a driver from back at the time of the incident

I found out I was wrong and he is a conductor per the AP

I still think he is probably over paid.

Not sure how much of an ass I think he is. If I remember right, he was only burning pages that called for violence. Besides... the first amendment and all that the Imam was touting, doesn't just apply to him.

I'm not Maggie. Stop insulting her. :)

He's a conductor, whatever that is. Doesn't sound more important than a teacher. Not jealous at all. Just feel sorry for tax payers who have to cover wages like that.

Here, I found the video of him tearing pages from the Quran.
I don't know about anyone else but this video makes me angry. Where are his rights? What did he do that was so awful that he was escorted away by the police? We have to put up with people burning flags and any number of dispicable things and just say oh well, they have a right. Then this guy, gets taken away for calmly ripping pages from a book? Ridiculous. The world's upside down with political correctness.

i edited my post. why would you bitch a bout a person's salary when you don't know what his job entails? seems to me that's part of the disease of paying way too attention to right wing talkers. think a little bit first.

I didn't want to get into a spitting match about how public workers are bankrupting the country. This is a thread about a man done wrong.
I wish I hadn't noticed that he is probably way over paid. That's not his fault, but since I noticed and you won't leave it be....
