A complaint issued today by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) against the Boeing Co. is a victory for all American workers—particularly aerospace workers in both Puget Sound and South Carolina, officials with the Machinists (IAM) said.

NLRB Acting General Counsel Lafe Solomon issued the complaint, which alleges that Boeing’s decision in 2009 to locate a Dreamliner 787 final assembly line in North Charleston, S.C., represented illegal retaliation against IAM members who work for the company. The NLRB is seeking a court order requiring Boeing to operate the second 787 line, including supply lines, with union workers in the Puget Sound

The government shouldn't be able to tell companies where they do business at. This is neither a victory for America nor American workers. This is the Obama admin pushing political favors to the groups that will help him get reelected.

This is actually scarey. I hope this complaint gets struck down. Looks like Charleston, SC can go piss up a rope for their jobs. When the Federal government can start telling companies where they have to do business...which is exactly what's happening here...we don't live in a free United States of America anymore. I'm surprised this hasn't gotten tons of press. This is very very sad.

It is scary. They are filing the complaint NOW even though the plant has been under construction for 17 months and is near completion. This is the very reason so many Us companies have moved their operations overseas.

If the move was a 'stick it up your ass' to the union... waiting until it is nearly completed before filing a complaint is the union's 'right back at ya'.

Of course it is. My Uncle just moved from Seattle, the bruhaha up there over the Unions and Boeing is most interesting. Boeing moved the Dreamliner cause the Unions demand so much $$ that it's not worth doing business there. I know a lot folks here in SA really hope Boeing decides to put forth big $$ at Kelly USA and make that a plant. Would really be good all around.

This is what Progressives want though, Government making sure big evil companies can't get rich off the backs of the poor!!

I think NLRB can jump into a lake over this one. I fully support unionization, but I also fully support a company's decision to locate a factory where they want, for whatever reason. In this case, I feel the company's rights trump union/assembly rights.

President Obama has packed the NLRB with union employees and given up any pretense of impartiality.

So Boeing is not allowed to create jobs in South Carolina.

Oh, no, they can create jobs there....they just can't use it for what they'd intended according to the NLRB. My opinion that's why they waited 'til the plant was practically built to file their suit. More jobs all-round. This is wrong on soooo many levels.

While it would be good for this area jobs-wise, I disagree with the premise of the suit.
Boeing has plenty of money to pay good wages here in the Puget Sound, they just want to take advantage of SC's lower living standards and wage scale.
I don't think I want to fly in a plane made by a non-union someone making ten bucks an hour.

I am certain that's exactly what Boeing has in mind moving to SC. That and actually getting planes produced in a timely manner.

Yea, because having those "made in Japan" wings (or any number of other parts made by $10 hr workers) stuck on by highly paid union workers makes the planes much more safe. {sarcasm intended}

exactly. this is why the head of the NLRB had to be appointed in recess - because he's a union radical. we have put the fox in charge of guarding the henhouse.

but at least we can finally put to rest the canard that Unions are "for the middle class". Boeing had already hired 100,000 workers - that's 100,000 families that the unions want to put out on the street in a fit of pique. "for the middle class" my butt - unions are "for" union leadership.

Still a bad move on the union's part. I fully support unions, but at the same time, if a company wants to move, that is their prerogative. What the hell is this? The Soviet Union reborn?

I would pay extra to fly in a non-union plane personally, anything to end the evil that is the Union. And I mean that.

Dont' worry, the liberals are working on that.

What exactly does being in a union have to do with anybody's ability to work on an aircraft?

As long as President Obama is in office the NLRB should be called the National Union Dominance Board. Their slogan can be, "We reward our friends."

I was fired years ago for refusing to join a union. I moved to a non-union shop and more than doubled my income. Of course, I wanted to work.

Well according to the other poster, you are the equivalent of an unskilled worker since you don't belong to a union.
