GOP official apologizes for Obama chimp email

Racist? Where does he say that once race is superior to others?

So I guess he could just call someone a whitey or cracker and it wouldn't be racist. I mean... where did he say blacks were superior?

When did Obama call someone whitey or cracker? Oh jeez. Let me ask you again: where did he call one race superior to another? Let me ask you another question: do you believe that one's racial identity and appearance help to shape one's prejudices towards race?

Ignorance is bliss with these playa's .. :)

The denial in this thread is face palmingly dreadful???

Tim-

So then do you deny that one's racial identity or appearance does not have an affect on their view of society and its members? (i.e. does a black person generally develop the same worldview as a white person relative to race?).

It depends on the environment they are raised in.

The syntax in Obama's words is unambiguious as to what he was referring to. If not race, then what exactly do you suppose Obama was talking about??????

So there aren't experiences that blacks generally share relative to race? There aren't experiences that whites generally share relative to race? Strange.

Oh, I am quite sure that he was referring to race - he even said the word "white" in reference to his grandmother. I just haven't found the part where he calls one race superior to others. Can you find it for me?

How was the chimp comment racist? answer that and you'll have your answer. :pimpdaddy:

Oh. I didn't see your question. My bad.

It isn't necessarily racist. I mean, they depicted Bush as a monkey too and he's white, so.... - I'm not going to judge the person's intention behind the cartoon. However, many racist drawings in the past during slavery, etc. depicted black people as monkeys. As a result, many people will consider this racist because of that association. Because of this, no politician, particularly one who belongs to a party constantly called racist by the media, should forward such a cartoon. It's just not smart considering how many people will, unlike me, automatically give it racist intention.

here's why people believe some republicans are racist. "unwise" my ass.
You need a chimp email for that?

Of course some republicans are racist.
Some democrats are racist, too.
As are some libertarians, some socialists, some moderatres, some independents, some...

That was easy.

She's 73 years old. She knew damn well the historic implications of how this could be offensive. They are doing an ethics investigation on her as we speak. She apparently has stated she will not resign.

Fire her ass!!

I have known enough old people to know that being old may actually make you more unable to see stereotypes. Consider the popularity of Sambo children's books. They could look upon them fondly years later, being absolutely unaware or in disbelief that it is considered racist.

Being an intelligent person in politics, however, requires a bit more careful study of one's actions. It was absolutely correct she should have apologized, as for firing, it depends.

Yeah, my great aunt still says "colored" unaware that no one says that anymore. Nobody cares because she's old. But like you said, you should make yourself aware if your going to be an intelligent politician.

This reminds me of the response to the Tea Party candidate for Governor of New York after it was revealed he had been sending Emails with Bestiality and Racist Image Macros.

His campaign manager's response?

Carl Paladino has forwarded close friends hundreds of email messages he received. Many of these emails he received were off color, some were politically incorrect, few represented his own opinion, and almost none of them were worth remembering.
We're not surprised the political establishment feels threatened by Carl's drive the take Albany back for taxpayers. Our campaign won't be wading through the details of what is just another liberal Democrat blog smear. It figures that members of the Party who brought us record taxes, record spending and record debt would want to change the topic from reform to having sex with horses and S&M parlors.

Why do conservatives get all the great scandals? Liberals usually just occasionally cheat their taxes, but come on, Horse Porn and Overt Racism, that's not playing fair.

Tell that to liblady. that was my point.

But Liblady is correct for the most part. Historically, conservative Republicans and some southern conservative Democrats have used racist tactics to espouse white supremicy while enacting local, state and federal legislation to limit equality of minorities, particularly Blacks, Hispanics and Jews. In this particular case, it was a Republican who transmitted the email, but such dispicable acts aren't anything new. Depicting Blacks as monkeys has gone on since WWI both domestically and abroad.

there shouldnt be and i think its best for society and the government to assume those ties do not exist and judge all people as if the the grouping of race does not exist.

Far earlier than that actually. The great chain of being helped establish (at the time) scientific means of evaluating the status of organisms on the planet. Evolution got thrown in to a degree, and what was more comparable to the ape was seen as less evolved. Since color and a whole host of other perceived differences came up, white scientists and thinkers came to the conclusion that Africans or Americans with African descent, were lower on the totem pole and were comparable to the ape.

I think liberals are racist, they tend to define the racial lines waaaaaayy more then it should, if you truly believe we are all equal then I shouldn't have to choose Caucasian on the hundreds of forms i fill out every year. The governments attitude toward race should not acknowledge that it is there and punish all discriminations/illegal prejudice that say otherwise.

I think just using the term blacks, and blacks are poor, and blacks need government help... is racist. Why are you grouping them as blacks? they are just americans that have the same exact rights as everyone else... no more, no less.

A fine example of why race needs to die out in this country.

Then why not give attention to the thread starter instead of its retorters?

I think it's better if all of us just acknowledge reality and stop pretending that things aren't there.

i think quotas and affirmative action are just as racist. "oh don't worry black, we dumbed down teh standards for you"... If I was black I'd be highly offended of being viewed that way.

Which implicates both parties. Republicans under Nixon had actually heavily developed the quota enforcement during the 1970s.
