Ya know, sometimes I wish like hell this would happen to my kid. Nothing would please me more than to put my foot dead in this teacher's ass.

HARRIMAN - A Roane County kindergarten teacher who reportedly told students to encircle a classmate, call him a pig and make pig noises because the boy is messy, received a one-day unpaid suspension and had a letter of reprimand placed in her file.

The incident involved Debbie Hayes, an educator at Bowers Elementary School who has taught kindergarten in Roane County for 38 years.

I cannot express my rage in words.

Yea teacher was out of line... nice that they didnt get fired for it though i would think that that would take it a little to far.

Thank God for tenure.

*sarcasm*

She was obviously preparing the kid for political forums on the internet.

Oh come on, this is all part of school, you know the socialization that kids so need, the requirement to conform. /sarcasm

Yeah, if this is the vaunted "socialization" that everyone seems to think children need, I think I'll pass. I was socialized in the welfare schools and we've all seen how that turned out.

She should have just pepper sprayed him.

Yeah...maybe she can get another oppurtunity to potentially scar another child, for life. That would be awesome.

One day off and a letter of reprimand? She just did her best to teach that child that it's okay to be ganged up on, beat down with words, and made to feel isolated and low while she simultaneously taught the rest of the kids that the best way to solve a problem is to gang up on whoever caused it, slewing insults and venom. I'm not really one for coddling children or protecting them from the "evils" of the world in so much as they're able to understand (I wouldn't, for example, explain rape to a 3 year old, but I might educate my 12 year old daughter when she tries to parade around town in a skirt the size of a gauze wrap). This just isn't right, though. I want to know why she did it and what the heck she was thinking? How messy was this child that she thought her best and only options was to create a circle of shame?

Humiliating a child for being messy isn't going to make him "neat." any more than oinking at a child will make him eat less.
This is just wrong headed and it teaches kids it's ok to bully. The teacher needs to apologize and the "bullies" need to be told what they did was wrong.
Why do all kids need to conform anyway? There are worse things than being messy.

Well MAYBE the little **** won't be messy ever again

I doubt it. It may be part of his character, much like some kids are especially "neat."
One may color outside the lines and the other may go to great pains not to.

A "one day suspension"? This woman should have been terminated on the spot for teaching and encouraging children to engaging in bullying.

Why did the article state how much the teacher made in a year? How is that relevant to anything?

Much as these stories make me cringe and are really wrong, I actually really liked the schools I went to.

A few bad apples, that's the world... how we deal with it is more important.

If I were homeschooled and didn't get to experience the things I did at school, I don't even know what I would be like, but I like what I'm like so there

Ohhh, nooooo, that would have violated her union rights.

Other than the fact that she's way over-paid, I dunno.

This is wrong on so many levels that the mind boggles. She should have been fired. But for her precious teachers' union, I'm sure she would have been. Hopefully, the lawsuit that poor child's parents will most certainly win against the teacher and the school district will hit her in the pocketbook, which I'm sure she values more than the fragile feelings of a bullied child.

Outrageous behavior.

Yeah. Ever notice how the schools are only pushing this anti-bullying thing when it's their pets getting picked on?

Lord of the Flies was supposed to be all children. I guess this adult teacher never read the book.

Imagine if one if the kids had been Muslim. The Middle East would be out chanting "Death to America".

I'm outraged. Oink Oink was reserved for fat kids, not messy kids. What's the world coming to.
They should have been calling him a "messy marvin"

Can't trust these teachers with anything. Glad she got zinged for that obvious mistake.
