Because the cyclic nature of the economy makes a recovery soon almost inevitable, and pretty much all the indicators are that a recovery is underway, slow, but true.

It's not the Mormon thing conservatives really gawk at, it's the supporting gun legislation.

I understand what you are saying, but I'm not sure if I agree that the same strategy works in the Presidential election. Energizing the base I believe will alienate moderates and independents. I can't see Huckabee bringing many of them into his camp.

If the GOP wants to "energize its base", the best person for that is Palin....and look at how well she would do against Obama.
While I find Huckabee a loveable guy? I plan to do everything in my power to make sure he does NOT carry the South. Read: he will not carry the states of N.C. and S.C. if I have anything to do with it and I do tend to get involoved on a small level but unless someone amazing comes out? I plan on medding up and putting a serious stop down this year.

Didn't know about the guns. That's a big black mark on a candidate I otherwise respect very much.

No surprise, but it's April 2011 and we are basically starting the presidential campaign for Nov. 2012.
Republicans will throw him under the bus and get stuck with another fiasco therefore handing over the next election to the Democrats.

You have to keep in mind redress that romney was a republican in the ridiculously liberal state of Massuchusetts, Regardless of the rambling of some teaparty candidates that you have to stick by your principles that only works if your principles is what your district basically wants. Romney couldnt follow strict conservative principles if he wanted to and ever get elected. Now im not saying that he didnt do what he believed in because I dont know

I disagree Romney isnt a strict social or fiscal conservative but hes no obama.
Romney is a liberal. By voting for Romney you would get Obama light and when it comes to many issues he would do the same thing as Obama.

American Thinker: Mitt Romney: A Massachusetts Liberal for President

    Romney's pro-abortion(pro-legalized abortion) stance.
Governorship of Mitt Romney - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In March 2002 during his run for governor, Romney told the Lowell Sun that, "On a personal basis, I don't favor abortion. However, as governor of the commonwealth, I will protect a woman's right to choose under the laws of the country and the commonwealth. That's the same position I've had for many years."[94] Also, during the 2002 governor's race, Romney's platform stated, "As Governor, Mitt Romney would protect the current pro-choice status quo in Massachusetts. No law would change. The choice to have an abortion is a deeply personal one. Women should be free to choose based on their own beliefs, not the government's."[95] Romney promised to "preserve and protect a woman's right to choose" and declared "I will not change any provisions in Massachusetts' pro-choice laws".[96]

    Romney's anti-2nd amendment stand.
Political positions of Mitt Romney - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Romney has said "I support the right of individuals to keep and bear arms as guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution,"[44] though in past campaigns he has described himself as a proponent of gun control, and he fully supports a ban on assault weapons.[45]

    The Mitt Romney Deception
    - HUMAN EVENTS
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

There isn't enough support among democrats alone to diminish 2nd amendment rights....
