Maine lawmakers to let one-armed people carry switchblades

CONWAY, Massachusetts (Reuters) - Maine lawmakers on Wednesday approved legalizing switchblades for people with one arm, moving close to becoming the first state to make such an exception to laws that ban use of the spring-action knives.

Backers of the measure say legalizing switchblades would eliminate a need for one-armed people to be forced to open folding knives with their teeth in emergencies.
I see the logic here, but this also gives a new meaning to the phrase "one-armed bandit".

the laws against switchblades are prime examples of how moronic many politicians are. most of us who know knives can open a spyderco style knife faster than a switchblade and much faster than the other knife that causes so many politicians to void in their shorts-the infamous "butterfly" (Balisong) knife.

morons in the 1950s tried to get rid of biker gangs by outlawing interstate commerce in switchblades. BTW under the reasoning of HELLER, that law is clearly unconstitutional. here in ohio you can own them and steak knives are used in more crimes than switchblades. Kershaw, Pro Tech, Microtech, MOD, and Benchmade all make high quality autos. My nephew-a captain the the SF group stationed at Fort Lewis carries a Masters of Defense Military Auto I gave him

Ah, I wonder if he's one of the guys that keeps everyone awake some nights. Sometimes the explosions that come from Lewis are so loud I think there's a bombing run coming.

On topic, switch blades being illegal is inherently silly. I mean, in my state you can open-carry on college campuses. I doubt a switchblade would be anywhere near as bad as a pistol being shoved in your face. Unless you know Krav Maga.

very few martial artists are going to last more than a couple seconds against someone who really knows knives. seriously
good knives-like the randall I have sitting on the desk here with my computer cut when they touch. someone who knows how to attack with a reverse grip is pure hell and almost impossible to disarm barehanded. a guy I knew was a door gunner in Nam his gunship went down hard and he got thrown on his back only to see one of Ho's guys trying to stick him with a bayonet. he had his Randall Model 1 and took a swipe at Charlie's leg-cutting clean through it.

and people who are well trained with pistols dont shove them in your face. they shoot you before you get that close.

Laws against switchblades, stillettos etc are archaic and dont make any sense...anyone that owns a good knife and works it can snap their wrist and open it as fast or faster than a switchblade...I think its just one of those laws that have been there for years and no one really contests it and it just stays there.
