Really because in certain areas of Africa women walk around with their breasts hanging out - can they do that here? No.

People are expected to speak English and looked down upon if they don't - even by many liberals (businesses who want money are the ones who make sure they have Spanish options). People are also expected to treat women with respect - not so for certain areas of the world. Hating homosexuals is hardly accepted here as it is in much of the world (even many who condemn homosexuality don't accept pure hatred of homosexuals - see the general reaction to Westboro Baptist Church).

In other countries, people have no problem with physical contact with strangers in public, on buses, etc. - in the United States people would look at you like you're crazy if you got as close as those in other places do. What about talking loudly in public places or having loud arguments in public - two things common in other cultures but not acceptable here.

We don't kill people or stone them when people disrespect our cultural expectations, but we certainly expect other people to abide by them and get annoyed or pissed when they don't.

with emphasis on "we expect". I guess you have forgotten about incidents like those where the muslims were raising all kinds of hell because they wanted to be able to wear veils in their DL photos.

That's all I've ever said, that "we expect" them to respect our culture. If we have those expectations of others, then I think we should also have them of ourselves. I expect people to know English when they come here and I expect myself to know French when I go to France.

It's not about making them like us...it's about making them comfortable enough with us to work with us...so we don't have to go back every ten years. Even a Wal-Mart greeter like you should be able to see that.

Actually I highly doubt that. if guys like that were running the show it would be fairly well understood that violent acts of terrorism would result in their caves getting flattened. much more likely that they would run about shouting in the street but stop short of actually ACTING. Point of fact...I highly doubt Al Qaida would have pulled the trigger on 9-11 if they thought Bush would have responded differently than Clinton.

Actually it's you that is ill informed, wal-mart. "Hearts and Minds" is a valid tactic exercised effectively since the French and Indian war. You are absolutely clueless.

edit: btw, I've been there....both of there's. I've seen it first hand, while you're sitting on your fat ass eating fried chicken and getting your reporting of the situation from whatever biased news media you choose.
