Sensitivity Training? Female U.S. Soldiers in Afghanistan ‘Encouraged’ to Wear Hijab | The Blaze

You know what you "sensitive" Muslims, kiss my lily white a**.
My first reaction was same as yours. But after watching this thread float by and thinking about it, I've changed my mind. #1--They aren't being ordered to do so; #2--If they were ordered to do so, I'm not at all sure that would be so terrible either; #3--What is wrong with showing respect for the culture of a country you're trying to help? Nothing.

Used to be that ladies covered their heads in a Catholic Church. All the ladies in the congregation weren't always Catholic, but rarely did women ignore this polite and traditional custom. It's just, well, no big deal.

Lt. Col. Michael Lawhorn, a U.S. Central Command spokesman, stressed to TheDC that while commanders are encouraging American women to wear headscarves while engaging with civilians, they are not having them wear the headscarf in lieu of their kevlar helmets
They specifically did not have them wear a headscarf instead of a helmet. It all comes down to the comfort level of the individual soldier.

You're right, I didn't see in that article that the Muslims are requesting anything from our military. I'd also agree that kissing Amazed's lilly white ass would not be pleasant for anybody.

The article also said that "suggestions" from the brass are just as good as orders. Still, if it's true that it's the comfort level of the soldier that dictates here, then clearly this is not necessary to reach our objectives, as was suggested before.

The rationale for it being a suggestion was the legislation mentioned in the article preventing the Pentagon from ordering female soldiers in Saudi Arabia wearing abaya's. I would agree that this is not absolutely necessary to our objective, but highly beneficial.

Men are expected to uphold cultural norms in foreign countries as well.

Our men and women have fought and died in part to free this Nation from the Islamic Cult that would kill women for showing a bit of bare ankle and they want this BS?

This is another reason we shouldn't be involved overtly in Libya and if we are going to arm them because we don't like Gaddafi keep your damn mouth shut about it.

Indeed, there's classes our folks take to get it right. You'd be amazed at the outcome of a cultural faux pas in that neck of the woods.
