CNN Poll: Unfavorable view of tea party on the rise

Washington (CNN) - Nearly half of all Americans have an unfavorable view of the tea party movement, putting it in the same company as the Democratic and Republican parties, according to a new national poll.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Wednesday indicates that 32 percent of the public has a favorable view of the two year old anti-tax movement, which also calls for less government spending and a more limited role for the federal government in our lives. The 32 percent favorable rating is down five points from December.

Forty-seven percent of people questioned say they have an unfavorable view of the tea party, up four points from December and an increase of 21 points from January 2010. That 47 percent is virtually identical to the 48 percent unfavorable ratings for both the Democratic party and the Republican party in the same poll.
It looks like the popularity of the movement might be waning. I wonder if this is a short term blip or a longer term trend.

Eh...its just like with Ross Perot....you have a certain segment of the population that is easily excited...but then they start to look closer at the actual policies and beliefs and it isn't quite as exciting as it seemed at the time.

He was to that "Tea party" segment of the population. Don't you remember all those old white folk that had reform rallies in their driveways and garages. They were all excited to be part of a "grass roots" movement....until they realized that it wasn't all that it was cracked up to be...and actually that their savior was a little whackjob himself.

Perot was before I really got interested in politics, so I don't remember much about him other than he was wacky.

Wacky he was.....but similar to the tea party crowd....he inspired thousands of bluehaired Americans to decorate their garages with flags and wear funny outfits and have wacky rallies to support the "Reform Party".

Not really, but I got a real kick out of Admiral Stockdale. He made John McCain look like someone who was completely in control of his faculties. Hehe.

I'll never again give credence to any published poll unless I see the questions asked. Wordsmithing is everything. Don't see the questions they ask? Don't believe the poll.
