Could Obama be Impeached over Libya? Let's ask Biden

UN Security Council: Resolutions 2011
S/RES/1973 (2011) The situation in Libya

The UN Charter itself notes that the Security Council’s commitment of member nations’ troops must be authorized by these nations’ “respective constitutional processes.”

UN resolutions do not meet the requirements, congressional approval is still needed.

Truman even wired a note concerning ratification of the UN Charter, as he was aware of the internal debates over the constitutionality of it. Truman promised "When any such agreement or agreements are negotiated it will be my purpose to ask the Congress for appropriate legislation to approve them."

Backed by this assurance, the UN charter was approved 89-2.

Obama is hiding under his desk as we speak.

Conservatives may want to remember that Constitutionally, if Obama is impeached, it wouldn't negate the '08 election. It would mean President Biden. Unless that's what you want...

(BTW, I may be wrong, but doesn't it go to Harry Reid next? Again, that doesn't sound like something you want.)

The Presidential order of succession is Biden, Boehner, Inoye, Hillary, Geithner, etc.

Let's hope we never get down to Boehner, we'd be in trouble then!

How long does it take to get to Michele Bachmann, and is there a way that we can become part of Canada before that?

It may only take 20 months! I hear she is thinking of running and I'm sure lots of conservatives would vote for her - especially is she has Palin as her VP!

If that's Republican ticket, steel yourself for 4 more years.

For sure.

Sounds more like sour grapes to me!

The Presidential Planner: Friday, March 25, 2011
March 25, 2011 8:54 AM

President Obama will start his day with his regular rounds of morning briefings in the Oval Office.

The president will spend the majority of the day in closed-door meetings, except a late afternoon reception in the East Room for Greek Independence Day.

It could be argued Iraq was legal under the war powers act, and Afghanistan most certainly was. Libya is not(therefore it needs Congressional approval), however I do support thay action being taken.

No. He has sufficient time, and Americans are not going to move that way, and neither is the party. It's an amusing display of television rhetoric.

There is a Political Cartoon Thread - your cartoons have nothing to do with Obama being impeached over Lybia - so perhaps a bit out of place. We know you don't like Obama.

No, impeachment is not for unpopular actions. Or even ones that might technically not be within his granted powers. Impeachment is for serious corruption, the likes of which we have actually not ever seen from any president. Save perhaps GWB and torturing people. But even that is only "perhaps".
