The call by the Arab League for Western military intervention in an Arab state — in this case asking that a UN “no-fly zone” be imposed over Libya – is not only without precedent but it puts in formal terms what Governor Palin stated three weeks ago should have been America’s response to the political and humanitarian crisis now unfolding there.

...Mrs. Palin’s formulation had been blogged about for nearly a week when it was echoed by the man who, before the Iraq war, had led the Iraq democratic movement in exile, Ahmed Chalabi.

The Palin Doctrine. It contrasts sharply with the foreign policy being conducted, if that is the word, by President Obama, who is perplexing not only the Arab world, to which he reached out in his Cairo speech at the start of his presidency, but even his own supporters in the liberal camp, and many in between, who are upset by what might be called his propensity for inaction. It’s an inaction that suggests the Arab League won’t be the only institution that might find itself surprised by the logic of the alert Alaskan.

She's ahead of the curve again, and people have the gall to claim she's stupid. If that's the case, what is Obama? Is he really, really stupid, or does he simply lack a pair of testicles. In the words of The Rag'in Cajun... perhaps Hillary can loan Obama one of hers.

And as for ahead of the curve, the idea for a no fly zone over Libya has been floating around since before the 3rd of January.

Lateline - 01/03/2011: Gaddafi disconnected from reality

ALI MOORE, PRESENTER: The United States is moving warships and planes from its Mediterranean-based Sixth Fleet closer to Libya, as the United Nations continues to debate whether to introduce a no-fly zone over the country.

Three weeks ago isn't really ahead of a curve that began three months ago.

March 1 was how long ago?

Palin... ahead of the curve.

 Dammit, I was thinking in the American date system from something else I was looking up.

But our foreign minister has been advocating this for about the same amount of time, and the first reference I can find to a no fly zone is from a certain Lord David Owen. Not a Palin original idea.

I prefer and use the D/M/Y date system as well... but I was wondering how the hell could someone have been calling for a NFZ in Libya on Jan 3, when the Tunesian Fire Act that started the first domino went up in smoke on Jan 3, 2011. Now that would have been way, way, way ahead of the curve.

For those interested in Lord David Owen's statement: http://www.thetakeaway.org/2011/feb/23/gadhafis-next-weapon-air-strikes-libya/

It doesn't really matter who had the idea. She was standing pretty much alone on the US political landscape with it, and does anyone doubt she would have acted and it wouldn't have taken weeks of gestation? So regardless of who thunked it up, she was ahead of the curve.

Have to LOL at Drudge Report's Title for the day... "Hillary's War". Meanwhile back at the ranch, Barack is pleading with Michelle to give him his balls back.

She seems to rather be with the curve in people without decision making powers in calling for it.

Oh my god. Are you that out of touch!?! You live under a rock? I cant believe that anyone is that far out. Man, if you think Palin was some how the first person to think of this or even one of the first people to think of this, I have no respect for you anymore. That is one of the dumbest things Ive read in a while. And to call it the "palin Doctrine" is just soooooooo ignorant and stupid...... Im just without words at how utterly stupid this is.

Are you talking about the proposal for a No-fly zone that President Sarkozy had discussed with the media on February 22nd? Or the one proposed by the Libyan Deputy Ambassador to the UN, at the UN on February 21st? You mean the one that Sarah Palin would have read about in the papers on the morning you reckon she 'invented' the idea, February 23rd? Is that what you're referring to as The Palin Doctrine? The policy position she borrowed from France?

 Yeah, 'cause she's the only person to espouse that idea.

well, the problem is, she's so stupid that she forgot the most important caveat: you need to impose a no fly zone.... but not until you've spent about a month or so pondering the imponderables of the situation and watching the slaughter of civilians, and then you need to ask the UN for permission.

gah, how retarted is palin, anyway? she would have, you know, acted, and led or something  what an idiot.

she was arguing for this on February 23rd. what mass of people were arguing for it at that point? not arguing, just curious.

Sarkozy went further than any other leading EU politician in calling for military action. "The continuing brutal and bloody repression against the Libyan civilian population is revolting," he said. " The international community cannot remain a spectator to these massive violations of human rights.

how short are our memories
ahmed chalabi
the reich wing wants to celebrate that palin and chalabi are aligned in middle east policy
stunningly stupid association with possibly the one crook most responsible for our mistaken entry into the war in iraq

... Mr. Chalabi provided an essential link to evidence of Saddam's cooperation with Al Queda terrorists, the reconstituted weapons program, and the increasingly urgent nuclear threat. It was his insight into the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people that helped predict a brief, nearly bloodless end to Project Iraqi Freedom.

When the liberation failed to turn up any WMD, Mr. Chalabi was unapologetic. The existence of weapons was irrelevent, he told a British reporter. "What matters is that the Americans are in Baghdad." And so we were. That is the last time I remember seeing him on camera. He was still on America's payroll then, as a consultant to the Defense Department.

Afterwards, wasn't there some messy business with the CIA raiding Mr. Chalabi's new office in Baghdad? And wasn't there talk that he was a double agent, reporting to both the U.S. and Iran? ...
Whatever became of Ahmed Chalabi? - "Hello," she lied - Open Salon

Yes, Chalabi is a con man who bilked the US tax payers out of hundreds of millions of dollars and then ran away to Iran when the US came for him. Yes, Chalabi's head of security, Aras Karim Habib, was member of the Iranian intelligence services. Yes, the CIA and teh DIA warned the GWB Admin about him and his crew. Yes the CIA cut off Chalabis funding only to see it renewed by the GWB Admin. Yes, Chalabi was involved in the transfer of the information to Iran that the US had broken one of Iran's codes. And Yes, he sat next to Laura Bush at a SotU. And yes, after Chalabi's treachery became undeniable, GWB said he "may have met" Chalabi.

Being associated with Chalabi isn't the best of things for a politico, imvho.

The Seattle Times: Nation & World: Iran used Chalabi to dupe U.S., report says
The Defense Intelligence Agency has concluded that for years Iran has used a U.S.-funded arm of Ahmad Chalabi's Iraqi National Congress to funnel disinformation to the United States and to collect highly sensitive American secrets, according to intelligence sources.

"Iranian intelligence has been manipulating the United States through Chalabi by furnishing through his Information Collection Program (ICP) information to provoke the United Sates into getting rid of Saddam Hussein," said an intelligence source who was briefed on the conclusions of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA).

The ICP also "kept the Iranians informed about what we were doing" by passing classified U.S. documents and other sensitive information, he said. The ICP has received millions of dollars from the U.S. government over several years.

An administration official confirmed that "highly classified information had been provided (to the Iranians) through that channel."

Ask a member of the Arab League about Palin, and they will mention Monty Python and lumberjacks. Or touriam...

So I wonder if any of those folks that scream and whine about "If you aren't a hyper-partisan you'll give Obama credit when he's got a good idea" will at least admit Palin had the right idea in this situation and Obama looks weak.

What is President Obama doing about anything? The most alarming answer – your guess is as good as mine – is also, frankly, the most accurate one. What the President is not doing is being clear, resolute and pro-active, which is surely a big part of his job description. This is what he has to say about the popular uprising in Libya: “Gaddafi must go.” At least, that was his position on March 3.

Since then, other countries – most notably Britain and France – have been calling for some kind of intervention. Even the Arab League, a notoriously conservative organisation, has declared support for sanctions. But from the White House has come only the blah-blah of bland statements filled with meaningless expressions and vague phrases. Of decisive action and leadership – even of clearlydefined opinion – there is precious little sign.

What is the Obama administration’s position on the protests in the Gulf island state of Bahrain, which the authorities there are savagely suppressing with the help of troops shipped in from Saudi Arabia? What is the White House view on the alarming prospect of the unrest spreading to Saudi Arabia itself? Who knows? Certainly not the American people, nor the leaders of nations which would consider themselves allies of America.

This proves that she can read a newspaper. It wasn't her idea, it wasn't a US initiative. What are you wanting to give her credit for?

For being able to read a newspaper, apparently.
