GOP: EMERGENCY, EMERGENCY, NPR Is Funded by the GOVERNMENT(edited)

The GOP is at it again. Americans want jobs. The GOP promised jobs. But what is the GOP wasting time on? Defunding NPR. It's so important to them, that they called an emergency meeting on the issue. All of this despite the fact that O'Keefe's fake sting video has been debunked and called deceptive by Glenn Beck's The Blaze website editors.

Where are the jobs, Mr. Boehner?

GOP: EMERGENCY, EMERGENCY, NPR Is Funded by the GOVERNMENT -- Daily Intel

Today, House Republicans will call an emergency meeting of the Rules Committee to take on an issue of near-catastrophic importance: the $90 million in funding that annually goes toward supporting National Public Radio. The meeting will center upon Republican congressman Doug Lamborn's bill, rushed to the floor without traditional hearings due to its importance, that would bar the government from funding NPR and its affiliates. (The House already tried to de-fund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which also supports PBS, but the Senate blocked this.) The White House and Senate have already agreed to eliminate $50 million in planned increased funding for the CPB, but Lamborn wants to focus directly on NPR in the light of conservative activist James O'Keefe's doctored "sting" video and permanently ban funding for the radio network. It's not likely his efforts will meet with success in the Senate and White House, who in this matter seem to have a different definition of the term emergency.

They violated Juan Williams's 1st Amendment rights. That's reason enough, alone, to defund NPR.

I thought it was Obama and the Democrats that promised jobs, via the Magical Mystery Stimulus bill... (looks around) I don't see them. I don't see an end to the high unemployment rates either,. and we were told by Obama that wouldn't go above 8%.

You're chasing the wrong people, Sarge. Chase the lying Democrats.

You need to learn what the first amendment entails. Juan Williams was an NPR commentator. According to NPR, he violated his contract for saying what he said on FOX. That's not a first amendment issue. Try again. But thanks for showing what the GOP's beef with NPR is really about. It's not about the budget, it's about ideology.

Bohner and the GOP ran on jobs and the economy. Anybody with half a brain knows that. So, tell me, do you think the GOP's obsession with NPR, abortion, gays and Muslims is good for the economy?

The GOP is doing ZERO on jobs. They have done NOTHING. Another reason why they suck. At least they are trying to break the unions though.

Any company that is supported by government funds can't, by law, infringe on the civil rights of an employee. If NPR wants to suppress the fre speech rights of one of their employees/contractors, they need to cease accepting government funds, immediately.

The government can't create jobs. The less time the government spends on trying to create jobs, the better.

The Civilian Conservation Corp had done a lot of good from what I understand. During hard times they had found things for people to do in this great nation of ours. Besides giving the people that had been out of work a feeling of purpose they managed to fixed up our country for us. Maybe a high speed rail or something neat could be had out of a similar deal today. Money is not everything IMO.

Some would say the difference between a man and a derelict is a job.

    Peace.
