Political Insider Your morning jolt: Girl Scouts ticked over cookie tax

Over the weekend, an e-mail went out to Girl Scout leaders, warning them that HB 385, a bill to rewrite the state tax code, would subject their cookies to a sales tax – and would hit Boy Scout popcorn sales as well:
Republicans taxing non-profit organizations now? And the Girl Scouts at that? You have to be kidding!!

I have a question that must be answered. How many boxes of Girl Scout cookies will the Girl Scouts have to sell, in order to raise enough sales taxes to offset the taxes that Georgia Republicans have cut for their wealthy and corporate cronies?

    The Girl Scouts of America??

    Say it ain't so.

Georgia allows exceptions for sales tax for general foodstuffs, but cookies are not exempt from that. Why should cookie sales from the Girl Scouts be treated as any other cookie sale from a supermarket? You sell a product and if it subject to a sales tax, you tax it... like from any other vendor...

Unlike a supermarket, the Scouts are a non-profit organisation, it makes no sense to tax it if it's going to a charitable cause.
So follow me into the desert
    As desperate as you are
Where the moon is glued to a picture of heaven
And all the little pigs have God
