Update: Recorded NPR Exec Makes Resignation Immediate (With Juan Williams Reax) | The Blaze

After conservative activist James O‘Keefe’s Project Veritas released footage of a staged meeting with two executives from National Public Radio early Monday, NPR released statements Monday confirming the immediate resignation of Ron Schiller, NPR’s senior vice president for development and president of the NPR Foundation.

“While the meeting I participated in turned out to be a ruse, I made statements during the course of the meeting that are counter to NPR’s values and also not reflective of my own beliefs. I offer my sincere apology to those I offended,” Schiller announced in a statement. “I resigned from NPR, previously effective May 6th, to accept another job. In an effort to put this unfortunate matter behind us, NPR and I have agreed that my resignation is effective today.”

This is just too rich.
Can we say... ALL MEN ABOARD... BULL**** ALERT... BULL**** ALERT...BULL**** ALERT
NPR ‘appalled’ by former exec’s comments - Yahoo! News

"Sincere apology... I made statements during the course of the meeting that are counter to NPR’s values..." why do I and probably many others believe this is pure drivel. That he meant what he said, probably enjoyed it, and being at the helm he reflected the sentiment of the vast majority at NPR?

I also like the opening line in his statement in paragraph 2, and the use of the word "ruse". It wasn't a ruse. It wasn't entrapment. Nobody tricked him into saying that. He had that sentiment about republicans and The Tea Party, was given the opportunity to express it and wholeheartedly did. The only "ruse" is that NPR believes it's an open minded news organization, when they're nothing more than Frontline journOlists.

And he calls Republicans and The Tea Party xenophobic and racist?

Yes NPR is appalled... (for by and large) having being exposed.

Your tax dollars at work for you.

Exposed at what? Notice he wasn't fired. He quit, he was leaving the company anyway. They denied the fake money and this executive makes it clear that he doesn't like the Tea Party. As I have pointed out on the other thread that already exists (and Mellie posted on which begs the question of why she reposted another thread), NPR would be appalled since they would never attack the Tea Party like that.

I suppose that is what they are appalled at and what everyone is so angry at. That he thinks the Tea Party is largely anti-intellectual and xenophobic. Am I correct?

no, they're upset that he got caught.

Right, NPR the giant evil empire that is being taken down by O'Keefe with his, again edited, video of a person saying he doesn't like conservatives! Wow, great job O'Keefe, you found someone who has a political lean!

This guy said the horrible things he did just like the ACORN employees. O'Keefe cannot put words in people's mouths. They all willingly spoke their minds not knowing they were being taped and got fired for it. GOOD.

I wonder what leftie group is trying to hatch a plan to infiltrate FreedomWorks or The Tea Party Express or something.......

What did he say that is horrible? He doesn't like the Tea Party! Oh well. You stick up for Glenn Beck, and you think this guy stepped over the line? He isn't a pundit, he was speaking candidly about his own beliefs. He doesn't have an audience of millions of people that he tries to convince on a daily basis.

He has a right to have an opinion about the Tea Party, like it or not. Why are his comments so "horrible", and the things Beck or Limbaugh say daily acceptable? And it's not even a fair comparison since Beck and Limbaugh are pundits and this guy was just sharing his political views with someone who asked.

*Edit:

Let's be honest, Mellie, this is just a hit job to take down one of the only decent news organizations left.

Found a liberal at NPR, get a rope...

and our attempts to bait them into taking money from a fake terrorist organization failed too, shucks, I'm sure we'll catch them for being terrorist eventually.

taken down? no. perhaps tarnished a bit in the public eye. probably not as bad (yet, O'Keefe says there is more video. if this rolls out anything like the ACORN video did, then who knows where it's going to go) as the Juan Williams firing.

and probably not good for the future of their federal funding, as Republicans cast about for items to cut, it makes it harder for Democrats to defend NPR.

which, mind you, is the most interesting part of this for me. I knew what NPR thought of the American people already. I was fascinated to learn that they might want to wean themselves off of public money. Finally, bipartisan agreement :)

no way could selective editing modify the intent of what was originally said

this is why i think the fellow is an asshole:
“While the meeting I participated in turned out to be a ruse, I made statements during the course of the meeting that are counter to NPR’s values and also not reflective of my own beliefs. I offer my sincere apology to those I offended,” Schiller announced in a statement
he is asserting that he is saying things he does not actually believe

if he were an actor, paid to parrot the lines written by another, then saying something not reflective of one's personal beliefs can then be excused. but this bastard does not have the balls to admit what he expressed were his own beliefs
his stepping away from npr is a good - no, a great - thing

no way could selective editing modify the intent of what was originally said

O'Keefe posted the entire UNEDITED video, just to satisfy people like you. Wouldn't it be nice if the mainstream media did the same so we could see what people really say during interviews.

VIDEO

Have fun !

I liked the skits on SNL used to do better than the real thing. NPR is a snooze. Who cares about it?

Would it be painfully obvious to point out that what I said was still there and if you tried to edit a video like that it would also be painfully obvious that it was heavily edited? Good thing we have the fully unedited version for ya. :)

the people that whine about 'heavily edited videos', are the same ones who will tell you they don't have time to watch the complete video.

Juan is enjoying the poetic justice.

Robertson is a politican posing as a preacher. He should pay taxes. Reminds me of the Vatican supporting Spain, Italy's and Germany's dictators. Just plain evil.

Here's more-

"This isn't the first time that Robertson has shocked people by speaking off-the-cuff. After then Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon suffered a stroke in January 2006, Robertson posited that it was punishment from God. He urged the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez in 2005, and hosted the Rev. Jerry Falwell on The 700 Club in 2001, when Falwell made comments suggesting that gays and feminists, among others, were responsible for bringing the 9/11 attacks on the U.S. He has also become famous for his woeful prognostication, after promising a disastrous tsunami in America in 2006 and a terrorist attack on U.S. soil in 2007, both of which (thankfully) failed to materialize."

Thats why the GOP had to create the tea party PR/marketing scam. The religious right was damaging the country and Huckabee who is just another fake preacher like Pat Robertson and Jack van Impe is a super creep who never had a prayer of becoming the President, like Palin.

I think you're in the wrong thread...no, Robertson is not the "R" in NPR.

Doesn't it bother you that your political beliefs are being crammed down your throat by Elites and Think Tanks who program you with rhetoric?

How about the clear and obvious INTENT of ACCEPTING a 5 Million Dollar donation from a Known TERRORIST organization? This character should not only lose his job for being the TYPICAL PROGRESSIVE (closet BIGOT and RACIST) who thinks its ok to say or do anything as long as you accomplish your goal...but he should be tried for TREASON for accepting funds with the intent to manipulate US SECURITY concerns. Clearly this JERK implied that the money would be used to promote ANTI JEWISH sentiment of US PUBLIC AIR WAYS.

Public broadcating is bought off and censored media paid for by Exxon, CIGNA and a whole slew of big corporations. If you have a press in this country, it has to be a free press or there is no point in democracy, because all discourse is based on half-truths.

"As James Ledbetter recalled in his book MADE POSSIBLE BY... "The Ford effort took a new twist in 1966, when the Foundation began plotting a system that would unite satellite communication with educational broadcasting. McGeorge Bundy, the former national security advisor who had personally ordered American bombing raids on North Vietnam in early 1965, left the government and moved to the Ford Foundation to oversee this plan...Bundy obtained his position without being knowledgeable about, or even comfortable with, the medium of television..."
