Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children. ~ Ancient American Indian Proverb
You know what is odd? I am a college dropout with 1 year of college. I have few singular skills other than a willingness to work. I have made more per year than Milwalkee schoolteachers. That strikes me as wrong.
Me? No college at all. Started my own business at 19; ran it for 20 years; retired. Doesn't strike me at all odd that I make more than a Milwaukee school teacher.
Thank you, Quazi!
and if public school teachers worked those kinda hours instead of their 181 seven hour days...
i waited tables three nites a week for ten years, tuesdays, fridays and saturdays, year round
i worked summer school for probably a dozen
i made bank, paid off my house (california east bay) by age 51
to each his own, stay up
I had an occasion to watch professional movers one hot summer day for several hours. They worked like freaking dogs. Unskilled? Yes. Wearing out their bodies? You betcha'.
Tom worked unskilled jobs--he's got bad knees, arthritis in his hands. Has deafness from noise on the factory floor. These are the real workers. Not desk jockeys. No. Not desk jockeys.

Doesn't matter how much they are payed if it is needed, but if we get waiting lines for beeing a teacher then the wages should go down. Their wage should be dependant on supply and demand and not on what we think is fair, pay should be based on merit and bad teachers should be fired. In only that way we can ensure that teachers keep a high quality. Do you think a bad teacher deserve 100K USD dollars.
Other states pay a lot less than Wisconsin and get enough qualified teachers. Also, if you compare with for instance social democratic Sweden who has a lot of problems like crime, but no budget deficit problem. Full time teachers in Sweden earn an average of 45000 USD dollars with compensations. Their take home pay after taxes and compensations are 26500 USD. However in "capitalist" America teachers earn 100K in average after compensation. It's just ridiculous.
