Re: Gov Christie suspends union members for fake calling out sick

I wish that Christie would run for president. I support the bill. Public employees should not be allowed to call out sick when they aren't and still get paid by taxpayers. I would consider it a form of theft and dishonesty. If you lie to your employer and call out sick when you aren't you deserve unpaid suspension. Such actions should not be tolerated in the workforce and especially at the expense of taxpayer dollars. If you need off work for personal reasons you should let your employer know in advance and request off on that day or use a vacation day. Calling in sick and getting paid to go to union rallies is incredibly deceitful and wrong. In my opinion, the teachers that demand that taxpayers be financially enslaved so that they can enjoy unmerited benefits should be fired and told to grow up.

Re: Gov Christie suspends union members for fake calling out sick

In all these posts in which people who have no actual information about the exact contents of the contract pontificate about what is in it, perhaps just a single one of you could cite the actual contract language?

And then perhaps you can give us the history of how any such situations have routinely handled for that bargaining unit over the life of the contract as a matter of practice?

Without that, all we have is not even dust in the wind.

Re: Gov Christie suspends union members for fake calling out sick

I say if their contracts didn't allow for this Christie wouldn't have done it and the union would've fought it based on that basis. Want to prove otherwise, produce their contracts to prove there's nothing in them that this would fall under. Otherwise all you have is dust in the wind. I've already showed you the Code of Ethics that all NJ employees are held to and how they violated that. You ignored that, changed the goal posts to the "union contracts" and have been bitching ever since acting like you have ground to stand on when you've actually presented nothing more than empy words.

    In our favor
    1. The NJ employee code of ethics, with a segment they arguably violated
    2. The Governor of the state actually took the action
    3. The unions haven't stated it was illegal based on the contracts

What you have in your favor
    1. Statements made singularly by you that maybe the contract doesn't allow for it

you talking about dust in the wind for anyone other than yourself is nothing but wishful thinking of a person without a leg to stand on in this debate but refusing to take the ego hit from backing down.

Perhaps you can show us, said contract, or any contract where sick days are ok for playing hooky for a state worker, in any state. I'll wait.

Your opinions would have so much more validity if you ocassionally just said, "Yeah, that really wasn't right. They should have used a personal day."

And if anyone posted up the contract, oops!! There go those goalposts again!! "Show me how they've enforced it on a case-by-case basis in the past." Good grief, Charlie Haymarket.

Re: Gov Christie suspends union members for fake calling out sick

What I don't understand is the hypocrisy of these Democrats and liberals who are against this bill yet will scream accusations of evil corporate greed or oppression by the rich. You do realize that what these teachers are doing is along the same mindset of corporate greed and employe abuse. Only with the teachers, the tables are turned. In corporate greed you have stingy corporations cutting wages, hours, benefits, and jobs in order to increase profits. They overwork employees by having them do the duties of more than one person so that they can pay less staff. I'm sure most of you who oppose this bill are against actions like this. Now let's compare it with the teachers and public employees. They are abusing their employer, the state (who receives its funding from us taxpayers). Their greed is no less righteous than that of certain corporations. They want to receive outlandish benefits that do not merit their jobs. They want to be rewarded for deceit in the form of free money for fake accusations of sickness. They abuse their employer and demand that the taxpayers foot their bills and pay them more. Their greed and laziness is wicked and just as evil as corporate greed that many of you despise. The public employees are being greedy and sapping funds from us. They demand that we pay them to not work and demand rewards for dishonesty. They act like spoiled children who believe everything is entitled to them at the financial expense of others. This is wrong, and this should not be tolerated. This is also abusive greed, only its effects are felt on a higher level as it impacts all taxpayers and the state budget. Union greed is wrong, it is unjust, and it should not be allowed. It's hypocrisy to hate corporate greed yet support union greed and the abuse of taxpayers by lazy and immature state employees.

You see rev & Maggie & Zyphlin - I am NOT accusing these folks of anything.... folks like YOU are accussing them.

It is incumbent on those making the allegations of wrondgoing to prove the wrongdoing. In this nation, until the fascists take over at least, we are still innocent until proven guilty. So if you want to castigate and accuse these people, at least have the common decency to do your homework and prove it.

But if you are fine donning the costumes of the Bavarian villagers with pitchforks and burning torches in hand storming the villa of Herr Frankenstien hoping to slay the monster, that is on you. For my money, I will stick with innocent until proven guilty.

It is more than revealing that in the more than ten days this story has been around, not one person here or nationally has published such information. That is very very telling and shows me you have nothing or it would have been revealed by now.
