Obama team defends lobbyist meetings -- and their location - The Oval: Tracking the Obama presidency

The Obama administration is defending itself against talk that aides meet with lobbyists beyond the White House gates in order to avoid public disclosure....

Politico reported that White House aides have been meeting with lobbyists at a government-owned townhouse on Jackson Place, visits that do not generate the entry logs that are kept at the White House complex...

One unnamed lobbyist told Politico about the Jackson Place get-togethers: "Without question, I think that there's a lot of concern about being seen meeting with the same lobbyists or particular lobbyists over and over again."...

Will they start releasing names of off-campus meetings?

"I'm not aware, you know, what policies might be instituted in the future," Carney said....

"You can't have a policy for the front door of the White House and then sneak people in through a back door," said Common Cause president Bob Edgar. "We call on the administration to disclose all meetings with lobbyists, not just with those who come in the main entrance."

I think it is high time that "WE THE PEOPLE" force the issue and put an end to all lobbying except by citizens from the district of the Elected Official being lobbied.

It would be nice for "WE THE PEOPLE" to have more say in the way our Government is doing.

This would surely reduce corruption or at least slow it down.

In 2007 there were over 17,000 federal lobbyists based in Washington, DC, and that is over 17.000 too damn many.

We're supposed to just trust The Messiah, because he knows what's best for us. I mean, he's The Messiah. He's above question and doubt.

You cats need to get with the program.

I wish Americans could have more authentic criticism.

Depends who the lobbyists are then I might care.

Why? I assume you don't realize that President Jug Ears hisownself did not qualify his phony mantra based on what the pimps were lobbying for.

Thank me for the education.

I'd reply directly if I could follow, though you likely make sense to you. I'll thank my college in the meanwhile. For all we know they weren't lobbying.
You can speculate the worst... I'll speculate irrelevance if its true at all.

PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTIAN!!! The great and powerful Wizard of WindyCity (and the USA) has Spoken!

Should make no difference as to who lobbyists are if your arguments were honest in 08.

But I know your liberal criticism only goes one way.

Who's arguments? When did I ever say anything to stray from the fact we live on planet gangster?

Alittle perspective here...and very little at that.

The President has made it clear that the logs for visitors to the White House would be made public and that such visits would include those of his Administration. To be fair, he is skirting his own rule by allowing White House aides to meet with lobbyist off-site. To that, he should make all such meetings public no matter where they occur to avoid any appearance of duplicity.

This article as first reported by Politico.com should help shed alittle light on things. Although it doesn't appear that the majority of lobbyist who have visited w/White House aides in this fashion are upset about it, meeting in this fashion does give a negative appearance. For this reason, IMO all records of visitation by lobbyist should be made public.

Lobbyists are useless individuals who are easily one of the biggest problems this country faces today. Couple that with allowing corporations to donate as much as they want to campaigns and I don't see how we plan to keep business from running our government. It's not good, me thinks.
