In the continuing saga of data security firm HBGary, a new caveat has come to light: not only did they plot to help destroy secrets outlet WikiLeaks and discredit progressive bloggers, they also crafted detailed proposals for software that manages online "personas," allowing a single human to assume the identities of as many fake people as they'd like.

That explains the sock puppets that sometimes infest DP. LOL.

But I do have one more serious question. Do the fake personalities from the Air Force use fake 600 hammers? And what about all those extra fake mouths to feed? That is probably in the budget too. Finally, the idea of fake people that don't really exist isn't a real bad idea. We could run some of them for president. They certainly wouldn't be any worse than the real one we have now, or the real one we had before him.

USAFSP (US Air force sock pups). You just can't teach virtue.

Isn't the term "fake virtual people" a bit little redundant?

Not really. Things in the virtual world can really exist. A case in point - I am going to email you a virtual cigar, but there is a catch. You are going to have to print it out and smoke it.

Presidents from both sides always have to be constantly alert for political traps so they really can't say or do the things they want to, especially when it's about showing weakness with our our "evil" enemies.

The constant ragging from pundits, Dems, and the Media forced Bush to attack Iraq, not WMDs or a need to get Saddam, or turning it into a democracy. Same with Obama. He has to keep the pressure on Afghanistan, Iran and N Korea because it's politically the only thing he can do, not because the al qaeda or Taliban need to be wiped out, or Iran and NK are into nukes...

Clinton said it best...

"It's far better to be strong and wrong than weak and right."

Much different tactic than you find in the old school days. In the bible kings would just pay 5,000 praise givers and all was good. Now wanna be kingpins can ramp up their fake support with software. Kreepy.

It really doesn't matter how many personas they create, or the reasons why, as long as they don't have false SSNs and get weekly paychecks.

I'm glad that they did this and got caught. Maybe now more people will understand that intertube polls and blogs are not to be trusted and used as sources.
