So Obama is trying to get tax increases that already failed. Shows how incompetent he is.

Obama budget resurrects rejected tax increases - Yahoo! News

President Barack Obama's budget proposal resurrects a series of tax increases that were largely ignored by Congress when Democrats controlled both chambers. Republicans, who now control the House, are signaling they will be even less receptive.

The plan unveiled Monday includes tax increases for oil, gas and coal producers, investment managers and U.S.-based multinational corporations. The plan would allow Bush-era tax cuts to expire at the end of 2012 for individuals making more than $200,000 and married couples making more than $250,000. Wealthy taxpayers would have their itemized deductions limited, including deductions for mortgage interest, charitable contributions and state and local taxes.

"These policies were unfair and unaffordable when enacted and remain so today," Obama said in his budget message.

He is not only incompetent but he runs everything like he was back in Chicago.

How do you respond to rising energy prices? Raise energy taxes of course! What a brilliant man he is.

No taxes hurt consumers. Stop all subsidies and no taxes. I see nothing of stopping energy subsidies for oil, ethanol or wind turbines

The should be resurrected. You cannot tackle the bidget deficit without address Medicare, SS, and the military in terms of cuts, and looking at tax increases. To believe otherwise is to be disconnected from reality.

Subsidies first not taxes

Raising energy taxes means an increase in price which will lead to a decrease in consumption. Obama is no fool. He wants Americans to use less of these energy sources. Of course increasing the cost is a foolish way to go about doing so.

Obviously this man is just like Reagan. After all, he caved in on what he WANTED and didn't raise taxes previously but is back again trying to raise it...Just like Reagan.

Really, this shouldn't be a shock to anyone that's actually listened or watched the man.

Where's the substantive tacking of Medicare and SS? Because from what I've read there doesn't seem to be much of that in this proposed budget nor in what Obama's proposed thus far in the coming year. You can point and hoot and hollar about the military all you want, but Medicare and Social Security are both as big if not bigger elephants sitting in the room.

I would think 10% unemployment would help but it seems we have more traffic

Maybe this is what he calls "Winning The Future". Winning the future my arse, how about "Winning The Future NOW!!!" :lamo

It's not there. And I think a CNNpolled show some 78-81% (depending on which one we're talking about) said not to touch those two. There's that disconnect again.

The military is more popular in terms of cuts, and there are easier places there to cut. But, fighting two wars, something we didn't have to do, won't be easily ended or dealt with. So costs will continue.

Here is what Obama is doing

Obama's FY2012 Budget:<br> Taxes, Taxes, and More Taxes

President Obama released his budget this morning. Rather than focusing on Washington’s over-spending problem, the budget calls for higher taxes on families and small businesses to pay for even more government spending. Under the Obama budget, tax revenues will grow from 14.4% of GDP in 2011 to 20% of GDP in 2021. By comparison, the historical average is only 18% of GDP.

Then there is this

Obama budget could boost fees on air travelers - Yahoo! News

Airline travelers would pay more to help finance airport projects under President Barack Obama's budget plan.

The president's budget released Monday would raise the "passenger facility charge" to a maximum of $7 from $4.50 per flight to offset $1.1 billion in cuts to airport grants. Airports use the passenger-charge money for FAA-approved safety and expansion projects.

Just because it's in the president's budget doesn't mean the increased facility charge will fly. Some Republicans with a hand in writing aviation laws have different ideas. Airlines are also fighting the proposal, saying it amounts to a $2 billion tax increase on the flying public. Airline executives argue the increase could discourage more people from flying.

oh my gosh.........how many times a year do most people fly? and is there some reason why we should believe that airlines are looking out for US? lol!

I'm not sure what this has to do with anything I've said. Please explain.

Uh-huh. Just like how republicans are incompetent because they are resurrecting the healthcare debate with no chance to overturn the law and even though they lost the original vote to pass it in the first place. I'm sure you'll agree with me here because I'm sure you're a fair minded and critically thinking person, right?

No the GOP has a mandate that came with the voters choice in 2010. The GOP is trying to get rid of bad law that will put a fiancial burden on taxpayers

These are the taxes you beloved leader wants to put on us.The highest in history

Might not be my choice, as I woudl support just letting the Bush tax cuts expire. But, the concept that there needs to be an increase in taxes is sound. It is just a matter of which ones.

"But the economy is bad , we can't raise taxes to pay down the deficit, it'll be worse!".

"But the economy is good, we can't raise taxes to pay down the deficit, it'll make it bad!".

Pretty much what I get from these people.

Tax hikes may be inevitable.

However, they should be the weapon (yes, I used a violent image here... so ****ing shoot me - yes, that was another one, so what) of last resort in the fight to lower the deficit, debt, and bring this country back to some semblance of fiscal sanity and solvency.

Only AFTER all waste, fraud and abuse has been removed from the budget and from government in general, should a tax increase even be discussed. We have to spend what we have WISELY, before having the balls to ask for more.

This is the problem with America though, the abuse in your system is so rampant, I do not actually see the point in raising taxes at this point.

The problem is, unless you tackle SS, Medicare and Defense Spending, you ain't doing **** to the budget. But no politician wants to step up to that plate.

I think the above, combined with slight tax increases across the board would have a vast impact on the deficit, but that simply isn't going to happen, everyone in Washington can keep sticking their heads in the sand to stay politically expedient, but the fact is, they're delaying a catastrophe.

Exactly right. but it isn't just Washington. It's the disconnect the public has that factors into this as well.
